Developing The Big Picture — Using These Books

How would I effectively develop The Big Picture on the many sciences of reality, BUT without wasting thousands of hours pouring over all the history books, philosophy books, nature documentaries, spiritual retreats?

This post holds my (what I believe) amazing insight on this issue!

I have been recently trying to figure a way to effectively develop a sound and comprehensive big picture view on the many fields of study (e.g. philosophy, psychology, science, religion, politics, ecology, etc.) . This has been important to me because as a teen / adolescent, whenever I would read something about a topic (e.g. from Leo on philosophy, from TED talks on politics, etc.) I would have a hard time understanding what was being said because I didn't know what the terminology meant, or I didn't know the context of the topic at hand. Recently I stumbled across the following book series:
