The goal is to meditate. Be aware. If youre not calm... be aware of that. 20 mins! Done :)

Meditation can be both calming and terrorizing, check out this video.

No, meditation is going to surface emotional "stuff". It only becomes calm after years and years of heavy practice.

For a Zen monk with 20 years of daily practice, yes, it's now calm. But that ain't you.

Although sitting still should still be doable for you. Not sure why your legs need to be flailing around.

You are God. You are Truth. You are Love. You are Infinity.

@phllip103 what's happening with the shaking? Your whole body trembling?

I have had this experience too.

It was most disconcerting and unexpected. And much more going on than just the body shaking, y'know what I'm sayin'?

Yes, I thought meditation was meant to be calm also...but No... big physical and emotional releases can come about. You may be up for some changes....

Sounds like you are getting a panic attack from  staying with yourself. You are afraid of the emptiness. What you need to do is follow the breath, fill the void with your attention and meet yourself there. Meditation should be enjoyable and helpful at the same time. It's like learning - you can learn while shaking and crying about it, but its best to learn when you are happy and enjoy the process.

Meditation might not be for you yet if you are getting panic attacks from sitting alone with no external stimuli. You probably need to work on self inquiry a bit and find the Self which is always there, it is something which you can place  your attention on, instead of continuing to feed your panic attacks by thoughts.

I were shaking and breathing heavily. Just a little more heavy than normal breathing. Its like when you stop breathing and than you start breath again and you need more air to breath to bring your self back to normal breath again.

The shaking was like a dog that scare of bolt lightning. When i let go of control, i was on top of mount Everest. Shaking like you just taking a cold shower.

Maybe you can try some guided meditation to get used to it? Have you tried Headspace?

Youll be master of this in no time, dont worry about crazy things happening, they all pass with the months, but you stay...:x

So. Self inquiry is simply sitting and watching your inner self.  You constantly aware of anything in you . There is no "i" and only thoughts that arise. Just aware of anything that happening right now. Am i right ?

@phllip103 ok so if your looking into enlightenment, "do nothing" will not raise your consciousness anywhere near as fast as self enquiry. Fuck the do nothing technique. Do self enquiry. Not only does this work faster, I find (the more still I am during *this* technique) I go into a trance and forget that my leg is numb and my back is sore. I don't even know about it.

So self enquiry (for enlightenment/raising of consciousness) is much more advantageous for you. Breath meditation and "do nothing" perform as helpful supliments for your self enquiry, but should not be regarded as the primary practise. You'll not get enlightened.

You need to EXCAVATE yourself (the person you think you are) and remove the false beliefs of your identity.

***There is no teaching, there is no teacher, there is no student. The only reason you are here if to find out *WHO YOU ARE* ***

(Also: you can't be stuck, who is the one who is observing the 'stuckness'? You have to find certain ways of asking yourself who/what/where you are. For example, it might be easier to word it like this "if my heart was removed and replaced with a different heart, would my existence also be removed and replaced with a new existence? [Observe the direct experience and return to the natural sense that of "I exist"]. Or another way you could word your questions could be "if my happiness were to fade away, would my existence also fade away?" Using different phraseology for different parts of "you" can be very helpful)

Remember...no teaching, just find out who you are. Anything more than this is wrong

@phllip103 shaking doesent sound very good...even though you shouldnt really have an idea about what meditation is...sometimes bringing your body to a standstill and just forceing yourself to do so can be most helpful. Eventually you can start combining SDS (strong determination sits/where you don't move for anything for as long as you can) however I wouldn't worry about introduceing extra things like this yet. Just do self enquiry and be creative, if your leg is shaking then just stop it. It can't shake without your permission unless you have bloody Parkinson's or some shit

@phllip103 It could be because you never really experienced true stillness before. It will all work out with some tweaking and with more practice.

@phllip103 I like doing about 20-30 mins. of mantra meditation to still the mind than about another 20-30 of do nothing and mostly bask in the silence. Maybe a little contemplation too if something worth investigation so happens to arise like an insight for instance. Or just sit with it. But that's my practice.

I've been meditating for 20 years at this point.  If your just starting and what you've described is your experience, then please do yourself a favor and ease into it.  Sounds like its bringing up a lot real fast.  Put some music on that relaxes you, meditate for only a couple times a week, and dont do more than 20 mins for a while.  Then when you feel more at ease, like your getting some benefit, then try 30-40 mins and see how that goes.  To much to fast is perhaps worse than never meditating at all.  You can also try the meditation I learned and still do, I made a video on it not to long ago.

Again, put on some music that relaxes you, it will help with getting used to meditation.  I know in my video I don't speak about music, but for you after you've done it with the video, try it with music next time.  And then just come back to the video or leave any questions when you want to remember how its done.

It's like asking if sex is suppose to be pleasurefull, it depends, you can be nervous, you can have ericticle dysfuncion, a lot of stuff can happen, don't expect to be a beast in your first attempt, you can, but most people won't, psychedelics will be like a viagra, or steroids, it will boost your meditation gains, keep meditating and don't give up, enlightnment will be an equivalent of orgasm, you don't stop to chasing orgasm because of one ericticle dysfuncion, you keep going until you get it, same with meditation and enlightnment, never give up
