What have you learned from seeing your parents getting older and dying ?

I am only 28, so I have time.

My parents are dealing with their parents right now (my grand parents therefore) and I'd like to know how it's like to take place more and more as an adult in life, and stop relying on parent's set of values, and reliability.

For those who are lucky still having their parents, how would you live your life from now, if they were dead ?

Thanx

Go to a nursing home and then come talk to me about all the stupid shit you're doing in your life.  All the little problems that we think we have.  Go to a nursing home and see where you're gonna be -- maybe not exactly but not too un-exactly either.

Oh, actually I've been here. My mother's parents passed away and I've seen the process of getting older and alzheimer/demencia. Sure it helps with contemplating life.

I don't think it helps seeing the stupid shit you're doing, but it helps with being less concerned about the "importance" that we usually think of things. Everything is vain (which is very optimistic, because you're free to do anything you want).

I appreciate your opinion.  It helped me see the stupid shit I was doing.  But then I'm 41 years old, I doubt you're as old as me.  That matters.  When I was young I thought I had all the time in the world.
