Pretty crazy how following an established formula subtly implies freedom will be attained in the future. It seems to be missed because there is limited insight into the whole picture of what-is(time). Time limits this insight to only a fragment and not the whole of what-is. Therefore really what we are doing is resisting what-is(insight).

The formula in itself provides relief. An insight being in the recognition this method is no different than psychological becoming/Identity of past future 

the ego wants nothing more than to be able to plan its own death then define/label it

It doesn't really matter because it will depend on how ready you are.

So you can't really waste time meditating for that matter because it always helps, and coming deeper into silence is always peaceful in and of itself, probably easier seen without a goal seeking mind.
