How do I know if a guru is a cultist?

If your desire is for truth you will not resonate with perverts. You will only resonate with authentic beings :)

If your desire is something else then be careful :D

Guru usually means religious and religious usually means organized religion and that's basically a cult. But how do you know if the guru is genuine or wants to exploit you after luring you in?

I'm an occultist too, so i can say the majority manipulate, indeed. At the end of the day is survival of the fittest.

That humble righthous in society is just that, death in disguise.

The more healthy is a human being, the more awakened. The more wrinkles has a human being, specially on the face, the more dormant.

Guru or teacher are many times someone who have long experience within a spiritual path or religion. But when you sit and listen to him/her you will understand soon if the teaching is rightroues or false. Example is if before your lesson the teacher ask for money or the tutorial cost a lot of money you can mostly think it is fake taching and you will not gain any inner wisdom. But if you gain free teachings and the teachings does help you in your practice the Guru is mostly real. But unfortunatly in todays world there are a lot of fake spiritual teachers.

Here i'm giving free knowledge, but when i teach someone RL i'm the most expensive of all the gurus you can think of. Why? Because real knowledge can afterwards bring you more money than what you paid the guru.

So do you do it for the money, or do you rent a place that is so expensive you must take high price?

Money in a spiritual life does not mean anything, only in the physical life some people are longing for much money.
