Is capitalism created to be unfair?

9 posts in this topic

Isn't the reason there are poor and starving people because there are the rich that are stealing and using more resources so its difficult to sustain an equal amount of resources to everyone. If it was treated unbiased shouldn't the people doing the hard labour earn more? Like bin men, no one wants to do it but someone has to, and should a footballer really earn more than the average doctors wage.

Technically capitalism should work fairly, markets decide what's valuable. So for example a footballer brings value in that so many people are interested in it and there's only so many people that can play at the highest level which is why they're paid so much as they generate so much.

The reason capitalism comes across as unfair is that it can very easily be manipulated, for example those behind it can make football seem more valuable than it is and convince people that they should be interested in it. Also it doesn't take into account the value of things that don't necessary generate money but are essential for society like police, fire, even cleaning. So it has many flaws and holes and can easily be corrupted but by itself it's not necessarily unfair. For example if everyone was a higher consciousness ie green, yellow or above, capitalism would be a good way to organise society. But because everyone is so worried about survival and getting one over on each other it doesn't really work.

It's like religion, at its core it makes sense but its corruption lies in the practitioners

Like all things, you have to account for human corruption in all systems. It's a "free market" capitalist society where everyone can choose where their money goes, but it isn't always the case. You have super stores like Walmart and Amazon destroying mom and pop shops. Because we kind of live in a free market system, we still can choose where our money goes. That is why celebrities and athletes get more money than teachers and great scientists. Goes to show what Americans really value. Of course, Like Leo said in his Mechanics of Evil video, evil is the byproduct of survival, so people will go about destroying anything that gets in their way and not give a rat's ass about it.

So if you want priorities to change, then you have to be the change you want to see in the world. As for poor people starving, many grocery stores are willing to give away food to the homeless, but they are forced to throw out a lot because of regulations solely based on looks of the food.

Still, capitalism at it's worst it better than socialism/communism at it's best.

Like consept said, it's because people are willingly giving their money to trash sports and celebrities and other egoic desires which is why capitalism comes across as unfair. If people valued what the mystics do, such as feeding the hungry, giving out education to people who need it, we would be living in a very different world where celebrities aren't praised like a golden calf.

I dont think capitalism is created to be unfair.

The problem is that when you have a system that rewards people for hard work, then the standards for even the simpliest jobs become much higher. Nowdays to get a high quality job, you either need to have a high intrinsic motivation naturally, do a lot of hard work or have a good social network in the field. Good genes are not fair for the hard worker, hard work is not fair for the general people who prefer social interaction over a life of constant work and stress and a social network in the field is not fair for anyone.

30 years ago (where I live) if you finished an education that qualified you for a job, it was very likely that the local companies would find out about it and call you to get you hired.
Nowadays what you need is education, hobbies in the same field as the job you are applying for and 5 years of experience on the field. High social intelligence and network of people are huge boosters but not an absolute necessity.

I like to think that in a hunter gatherer society, what is talked about after a day of hunt is who caught the boar and how they caught it. And in our modern society, the evening goes just like how it goes in the TV reality show Survivor.

Think of a value.

Footballer provides way more value to society than your average doctor (although you probably believe otherwise),  that's why he earns shit ton more

Average doctor, yeah. Average medical doctor, I would say more than the average footballer.

Entertainment is zero sum and healthcare is negative sum.

I would say capitalism was created due to time preference.

Thank you for the replies guys!! It's super interesting to hear, i'm very open minded to what has been said.

My friend is a communist and he says a lot of stuff to me. I feel like I need to hear all sides to somewhat develop an understanding.

In one of leos videos I cant remember which, but he mentions a long list (including if you think your a capitalist or communist) saying it's all bullshit.

I don't know if it's in regards to 'ego death' but Leo does say hes a capitalist in his video 'How to escape wage slavery'

I think maybe I should watch all the spiral dynamics to build a better picture as I've only seen Stage blue and orange.

I don't really buy into the statement you've presented. Actually It's none to do with rich people. It's to do with the middleman. Thus you. We. The middle-class. Because in reality, we're the consumers and wasters. But It is very hard to see the truth in that. That being said, It is not only to do with us. It has to do with the behaviour of those poor and starving people overcrowding themselves to death. This is a darwin-race and one generation will win meanwhile one another will fall. Any authentic homeless people can live their lives being poor on streets. S/he won't populate because knows that no point in populating without being able to provide the primal needs on the triangle of maslow's.

Your approach to economy and society is very naive.
