I Am Getting Off The Track

4 posts in this topic

Hey, I have been trying to get rid of my negative habit (doesn't matter which one) for the last 4 months now, first two months went pretty well, but at the end of the second month something happened and I failed :\ Then, one week later, I failed again, my mind created many reasons, one of them was that I wasn't strong enough because I failed once, and failing the second time wasn't a big deal, then, a week later third time and so on.

Then I resisted a bit longer, but I've failed again, and again, my mind created many many reasons, some of them were so silly, but not so silly to my lower self I guess :\

I realize that the biggest enemy of myself is ME and my lower self.

What would you advice me? How do you stay on track?

@bazera You can't truly remove habits, you rather have to replace them. You have a signal which causes your behavior and you repeat this eventually until it's a habit.

For you to change a habit, you need to use the same signal and reward, but rather change the behaviour.

I'd recommend reading "The Power of Habits - Charles Duhigg"

@bazera Why do you think you cant change this habit? why do you think you are failing at maintaining this new habit you are trying to implement?  You only fail if you stop trying.

Every time your mind tries and tell you something negative, you need to challenge these thoughts. Sometimes people lack the motivation because they have so many excuses but we often forget the many benefits we get when achieving a certain goal like forming a new habit. How will this new habit benefit you? how badly do you want to improve yourself and live a better quality of life?

Track your progress and write down how you feel after achieving certain steps, forming new habits are like training a muscle, when we constantly train it, it improves and gets stronger over time. If we stop training, we will never see any progress.
