Self inquiry question

5 posts in this topic

Now when I practice self inquiry and ask "who am I?" I get no response. No answer. I just sit silently in being until I lose focus and the internal chatter sneaks back in and the ego takes back over. Is the point of self inquiry that this still state of being just simply remains after enough of this experience? I cannot find anything that I identify with, yet I still find myself slipping into unconsciousness at the end of my formal practice, or whenever my heightened awareness fades.

Eyes closed or open? If you get to a still state of being with your eyes open, that IS the answer to who you are. The next step is to take that into your other activities. If you can stay in a silent state of being while doing other things, just practice that. And if dissatisfaction arises, just ask yourself to whom it occurs.

Eyes open, it's almost easier that way now. It's actually pretty neat to finally understand this stuff at a visceral level. I'm realizing that meditation is indeed "practice," but that every moment of the day is no different. I just have to remember to stay grounded
