How to Enchant Jewellery!

This is a quick how-to guide on how to enchant jewellery as an aid to any aspect of your practices/life. If you are skeptical of the title please read further, everything will be explained.

(This process is taken from the book 'The Art of Mysticism' by Gabriyell Sarom, one I've found to be very useful in my spiritual practice)

What do I mean by 'enchant'? In a nutshell, enchanting jewellery (or any item for that matter) is setting an intention or quality on an item of choice. Jewellery works well because you wear it and take it with you. This is very similar to affirmations but you create an association between an item and a quality/affirmation/power. For example, I take a ring and I want to infuse/enchant it with the quality of calmness and presence. After enchanting (see instructions below), when I hold the ring, wear it, or think about it in my mind those qualities of calmness and presence are brought into my mind, leading to relaxation, deep breathing, etc.

Have you ever brought an item back from a holiday as a souvenir and every time you look at it the images of that holiday come back into your mind? This is essentially the same thing, but you choose the intention/ thought to imbue an item with! What this does is it helps remind you of anything you imbue the item with, which helps you do the thing you want to be reminded of! The item inherently has no meaning or intention, but when you enchant it with an intention, the item reminds you of that intention. By wearing the jewellery and being reminded of your intention frequently, you will tend to perform the intended behaviour more often then if you didn't wear it. You have used the placebo effect on yourself, essentially.  

Why is this beneficial? This is beneficial because we tend to go from states of inspiration and higher consciousness, to highly egoic, lizard brain, lower consciousness, and back and forth over time. When we are in lower consciousness we are demotivated, jusdgemental, angry, not doing our practices, breaking our good habits, backsliding, being lazy etc. But setting positive intentions onto jewellery can help us through tough times that would normally set us back.

For example, say you had a summer break/vacation where you didn't have work or chores to do and you decided to get into shape and eat healthy. You do that for a while but as soon as the break ends and you have to go back to work and all the previous stressors are reintroduced into your life, your good habit starts to whittle away until you completely forget about it and slip back into your standard, unhealthy diet and lack of exercise. But by enchanting a bracelet, or ring, or whatever, with the intention of being healthy, it will be hard to slip back into unhealth. Your 'ring of health' will subconsciously remind you to do healthy actions if you enchant it properly.

 

Ok here is how to enchant jewellery.

1. Take a piece of jewellery you want to enchant and consider an intention you want to enchant it with.

2. Every day for 5-10 minutes, imbue your chosen piece with the intention.

3. Do this until you have a sudden shift where, when you look at the piece you chose, the intention suddenly jumps into your mind. Now it is sufficiently enchanted.

 

Notes and traps:

DON'T enchant one piece with multiple intentions. The effect won't be as powerful. 

DON'T relinquish all your power to your enchanted jewellery and think that if you're not wearing it, then why bother doing the action. The jewellery is meant to serve as an aid to your practice not as a way for you to be lazy. If you have a 'bracelet of peace and calm', don't just go back to being angry/erratic if you are not wearing it.
