When deciding to live on your own, should you instantly start with minimalism?

2 posts in this topic

I think the title says enough. I am planning to live on my own when I am 18 (currently 14 years old) and have seen different video's and Leo talk about minimalism. When I start to move out, should I go for that minimalism lifestyle asap? Oh and does anyone know any good books about how to keep your shit together when living alone?

I don't think it's important to be anal about material minimalism. If some gadget would save you a lot of time I would recommend buying it. Budget is more important. I recommend second hand stores for that and in general. If you don't decorate your apartment at all it's gonna feel like a prison cell. Make it more inspiring. I've bought some cheap and beautiful paintings second hand. You can get a nice one for 5 dollars if you are lucky. Some plants are also cheap.

When Leo talks about minimalism is't more about your activitys. Clean out distractions so you can live mindfully and only do things that are fulfilling. It's healthy to spend some time in silence instead of bombarding your senses all the time with music and youtube.

There is some wisdom in material minimalism tho. Like don't buy gadgets that you only use one or twice, and don't buy stuff to show of.

I don't think you need to worry about this so much yet. 3-4 years is a long time for someone your age. Your plans might change due to some unforseen opertunity, or you might end up renting second hand so it's decorated and furnished already. With that said, it's good that you are visioning. Just be mindfull that visioning is what you should be doing here.

The road to God is paved with bliss.
