Driving Meditation

3 posts in this topic

It was mentioned in the last video, and I just realized I do this myself a few times throughout the week. Sometimes with relaxing music, but usually just driving in silence, listening to the hum of the engine, and taking in my surroundings for the course of the drive. Would there be anything wrong with making this someone's primary form of meditation? I would still get normal sits in during solo retreats and things like that, even though I haven't planned a solo retreat just yet.

I would do it in combination with daily sitting.  I'm a truck driver and do this regularly, but it doesn't replace sitting on the cushion.

Nothing at all wrong with meditating while driving; I say my mantra when I drive and never have the radio on. But damn, I'd feel like I was shortchanging myself for that to be the ONLY meditation that I do. How long are you behind the wheel? If it's less than an hour a day, I think it's....not enough. You are being mindful, but you certainly can't go deep.
