Web of Beliefs Necessary to Pursue Life Purpose?

3 posts in this topic

All human knowledge is held in the form of many beliefs, within the web of beliefs. A belief is an idea or thought of something you think is either true or false. This web begins from a young age in a phase i view as "the imprinting phase", where a child takes in everything he is told as a true belief without question. beliefs are often connected to other beliefs, and building upon prior beliefs. example: everything we "know" of math, physics, biology, or any science is a belief within this web of beliefs.

Leo says we must stop the cycle of acquiring and rearranging our beliefs and we must destroy this web in order to reach the deepest levels of truth / enlightenment / consciousness, etc. But this is where I'm at an impasse, because what I think my life purpose will be is 'contributing to the development of artificial super intelligence'. I don't see how I will be able to pursue this goal if I "shouldn't" acquire new scientific knowledge, (coding, math, physics, etc.).

Does anyone see an issue for me to loosely hold my web of beliefs? Adopting a probabilistic point of view for any given belief and holding nothing as 100% true, even this statement itself. While at the same time Understanding that acquiring and rearranging beliefs for the web of beliefs is ultimately a bullshit game and will hinder raising consciousness.

TLDR: is it possible to use the web of belief to help grow my understanding of the world and not take it seriously, to the point where it doesn't hinder my ability to raise my consciousness?

What is for sure is that you will always be able to keep practical knowledge like how to use language and do math. Therefore the worry to lose this knowledge should be considered without ground.

Next consider these two seeming contradictions:

1 You take up beliefs from Leo ("Leo says we must...")

2 Leo says not to believe anything he says but instead, you should find these things out ourselves.

Man, you got like a hundred things you believe just in writing your topic. You basically say there is an option to "loosely hold your web of beliefs" who says this is even possible? Memories fade out as you do not train your mind to be aware of them. So the only thing I can make out of loosely holding onto your beliefs is that you are going to intend to purposefully ignore certain ideas and thoughts (memories) until they are gone... It doesn't make any sense.

Experience of what is true should be the only thing that matters. I think you are luring yourself into a trap but not noticing it. This stuff is counter-intuitive.

SO all this being said consider everything above as 100% nonsense as I am not qualified to give you advice. But maybe you were pushed around a little enough so that you can get out of your current thought pattern and "move on"

@Sven

I think there’s a miscommunication on what i mean by “loosely hold my web of beliefs”. I don’t mean having a web of beliefs while intentionally keeping it weak, vague, airy, ethereal; Creating this simultaneous desire to believe in something and to also desire to not believe in it.

What i meant would be more similar to very concretely having a web of beliefs, and basing the beliefs on how close they are to “truth”. I created this structure for adding / rearranging beliefs:

Hierarchy of how credible / close a belief is to truth while acknowledging no belief can ever be 100% true because that’s reserved for actuality / direct experience.

1. Reality / actuality

2. Evidence

3. Logic / theory

Here is the theory: I keep this web of belief for practicality and allow myself to continue adding new beliefs and rearranging old beliefs. Because without the web of beliefs i don’t know if i will be able to communicate with others, progress science, and have impact on the world.

But, I also acknowledge that this is just a conceptual system and that if i believe any of these beliefs to be equivalent to truth, then i have made a grave mistake and will be creating a barrier to raising my consciousness.

Also, i don’t necessarily believe all or any of this stuff i’m saying in this post. I think it was poorly worded by me, i should have said that whole first paragraph was assumption and a description of the term "web of beliefs".
