Most Important Daily Practices

20 posts in this topic

Just from Actualized.org alone the daily habits for spiritual seeking are:

Meditation (Which includes do nothing, mindfulness, strong determination sitting, etc)
Contemplation
Concentration
Self Inquiry
Kriya Yoga
Holotropic Breathwork
I'm sure there's more but this is all I can think of

I'm confused of how to balance these practices. Do you alternate between them? If so, which ones?
At the moment I practice a mindfulness of the breath for 30 minutes daily. I'm only 20 years old so I have a lot of other important things to correct in my life before I can fully dedicate myself to seeking, e.g, life purpose, dating and relationships, self-esteem, etc. All of these things require other practices that must be done daily (visualizations, affirmations, etc). I'm also a university student. There's only 24 hours in a day and to attempt to do all of these things everyday would be madness. I'd really appreciate advice on what to focus on, thanks.

So recipe for enlightenment is what you are asking? If someone posts it, please let me know ;)

If I had the ingredients for a cake, and I knew that a cake is possible but the instructions were missing, I would be left with no other option but to experiment and trust my instinct.

@molosku . I hadn't heard the cake metaphor until now. That's pretty good.

Patent pending ;)

Keep meditating.

Consider simplifying your lifestyle to make more room for what REALLY is MOST important for you.

Take time to figure out what that is.

@The Blind Sage @molosku @PsiloPutty @Adam M  I doubt any of you will actually reach enlightenment. By the looks of it, you’re not taking this seriously enough. I do self-inquiry for two hours every single day. I’m serious about this path. Anybody who says they will use Leo’s recommended meditation techniques to reach enlightenment is clearly not going to get there. If you want proof of that, watch the Hawaii retreat videos that Leo recorded in his blog. The first Hawaii retreat I mean. It’s pretty depressing.

"Not believing your own thoughts, you’re free from the primal desire: the thought that reality should be different than it is. You realise the wordless, the unthinkable. You understand that any mystery is only what you yourself have created. In fact, there’s no mystery. Everything is as clear as day. It’s simple, because there really isn’t anything. There’s only the story appearing now. And not even that.” — Byron Katie

@How to be wise  Self-inquiry, 2 hours per day, sounds like a good routine to strengthen the ego by projecting in the future - a hope of 'becoming' something.

Psychological time ('I am not this, but I will be that') = thought = fear = ego.

As to the OP's question - try to be mindful and inquire 24/7, you can do it everywhere, you do not have to be seated in a lotus position for it. Observe your thoughts and everything around you even when you are studying, walking or going to the shop.

You see, the reason you want to be better, is the reason why you aren’t. Shall I put it like that?

We aren't better, because we want to be.

The way I see it is that it's different for everybody... and everybody has his own pits to fall into. You have to discover it for yourself, that's the beauty of it.  Some never meditated and reached enlightenment, and some others say that self-inquiry is only for the enlightened ones...

Do you have meditation recommendations to do?  Thank you!

Who Am I to judge? When I think I know, I don't know that I don't know.

"Things don't change when they are understood. Understanding reinforces the intellect (the ego). The seeker has to make room to the meditative state."

??? i feel ya dude. For me silence is now the ground and time movement is the occasional function that arises from the ground. Use to be the opposite a month ago. The way it is now seems to be the only way being on the forum is tolerable.

It is almost beach time. Good day @cetus56?

The point of all these techniques is not that you have to do them all.  Be opened minded, but otherwise just pick a couple practices that resonate with you at the moment and go hard with them.

For instance, I don't have a formal self-inquiry practice. Never liked it. I also don't care much for kriya yoga or contemplation.

Figure out what seems to be getting you the biggest gains and go with that.
