This episode gives you a practice you can use to apply the insights from The Root Solution To People Pleasing & Loneliness.  (Summary is here.)  It’s a very simple, but effective meditation technique that’s somewhat counter-intuitive.   It helps answer…

“But Leo, how do I practice becoming satisfied by myself?  How do I embody not needing any kind of external validation?  How do I apply the wisdom that chasing dopamine hits is a bad strategy for happiness?”

The point of the Satisfaction Meditation is to take back control of your reward mechanism.  Currently, your happiness usually depends on rewards from someone else (love, praise, attention, etc) or some external event (a promotion, lots of money, a hot date, no lineups at the DMV.)  With the Satisfaction Meditation, we want to develop a practice of just sitting, being and not doing anything.  Just basking in satisfaction.  It’s the idea of just basking in the present moment and being deeply satisfied with it.  That’s it.  It’s literally that simple.

There are two potential traps.  First, you have to practice it.  Second, your mind doesn't like feeling satisfied with “just existing and being, duuuude.”  Your mind wants to do things and fantasize about stuff.  It has ambitions, fears, problems that it wants to fixate on endlessly.  All of that robs you of your natural joy.

The Satisfaction Meditation

Meditation starts at 3:22.  It will take 10 minutes.

  1. Set aside all distractions and take a comfy seat.
  2. Sit with your eyes open.
  3. Relax your muscles.
  4. Now, you’re just going to sit there.
  5. Don’t try to manipulate or control anything in your experience.  Don’t try to stop your thoughts or achieve a mystical experience.
  6. Just sit there and be fully satisfied.  Allow yourself to be satisfied with the present.
  7. Keep gently nudging yourself to be satisfied with the Now, with just this moment.
  8. Notice if there's a positive, joyful feeling in your body.  Maybe it’s a feeling of comfort.  Enjoy the feeling, but don’t hinge your satisfaction on it.  If you sit long enough you might start feeling uncomfortable and you still want to be fundamentally satisfied.

That’s It!  Think you can you do that?

Normally your mind wants to fixate on the future or the past because that’s where your problems exist.  You then lose touch with the beauty, calm and peace that’s present, in the moment, because it's not relevant to your survival plans.

We usually take the present moment for granted.  So, you might notice a subtle shift as you bring your awareness into the now.  Proactively start to appreciate and enjoy your direct experience. Keep nudging yourself to feel satisfied with it.  (The present is a gift, that’s why it’s called the present ??)

Enjoyable Meditation??

The enjoyment from the Satisfaction Meditation doesn’t feel like ecstatic, dopamine-fuelled pleasure.  It feels like relaxing into the moment.  “Ahhh ?, it’s nice to just sit here and be peaceful.  It’s nice not needing to chase an outcome or solve some problem.  Ahhhhhh ⛱️.”

So basically, you’re going to find satisfaction with being and existing.  During this period of 10, 20 (or 60, 90 ?) minutes you’re just going to focus on being satisfied.

If you practice this frequently you’ll notice a subtle shift. Before when you meditated you didn't really enjoy it, but now when you meditate you actually enjoy it!  It’s not a chore, or a grind!

The Satisfaction Meditation can create a positive feedback loop, because the satisfaction will start to build on itself.

⁍ Focusing on feeling satisfied in the present moment…helps you…

⁍  Realize you actually are satisfied…which creates a…

⁍  Feeling of satisfaction about being satisfied and your ability to recognize it.  (“Wow!  Leo’s weird meditation actually works!!”)…which causes an…

⁍  Increase in satisfaction that builds up that feeling even more…which helps with…

⁍  Focusing on feeling satisfied in the present moment…

…So just continue to sit there, and become ever more deeply satisfied…

Satisfaction-Loop.jpg

-After that, it’s a matter of staying in the sweet spot of satisfaction for as long as you can.  Try to keep your awareness there.

-The Satisfaction Meditation shows you that being satisfied and happy is something you get to do right nowHappiness is not something you have to chase after!  If you really practice it intensely, it can turn into deep joy, bliss and love.  You can become so satisfied with just sitting in the present moment, not needing anything, that it brings tears to your eyes.

-You can make this a formal sit down practice that you do everyday or a few times a week.  Or, you can turn this into an entire week-long meditation retreat, where you’re just sitting, being satisfied and not doing anything else.

The Sneaky Ego-Mind

-Warning: your ego-mind will start to get sneaky…

“Psssst…hey you…sitting there doing nothing…your to-do list ain’t getting any shorter…"

“Wouldn't this moment be better if you had some drugs, or sex, or chocolate?  Or friends?  Or a mystical experience?  Or a mystical, drug fuelled, sexperience with friends?  Or at least a yummmy nummmy cookie…?”

-You have to let go of those fantasies and just savour what’s right here in the present moment.  Stop trying to chase for a better experience.  Your mind is going to imagine all sorts of “better” scenarios.  For now, focus on the present.  You can spend the rest of your non-meditation time chasing goals and doing stuff.

“But Leo, what if I can't be satisfied in the moment?  That hottie ghosted me!  I got a parking ticket!  I have a project due tomorrow!  I’ve got bills to pay, kids to feed, a hottie to resent and stalk on instagram.  I needs me some enlightenment, pronto!”

-Well, the challenge is to try.  Your mind might resist and come up with excuses, at first.  You have to notice that those are tricks of your mind.  You have to just let those go. (ep: The Power of Letting Go)  Let go of needing things to be different.  Allow yourself to be satisfied with what's here right now.  Focus on that satisfaction.  Enjoy it.

-This meditation is powerful because the whole point is to be happy right now.  Other meditations are such a chore that they become difficult to practice consistently.  They’re a frustrating means to some future happiness or enlightenment, which becomes counterproductive.

Instead of dreading meditation, you’ll look forward to it because you get to just sit and be happy for 30-60 mins!  It’s the same reason you sit down to play ?Ghost of Tsushima? isn’t it?

Spirituality Is Not Supposed To Be A Grind

-If you're just grinding through meditation, that's a signal you're doing it wrong.  It’s hard to reach mystical states through meditation when you don't enjoy the process.  It takes hundreds, sometimes thousands of hours of just sitting and being present in order to reach that.  How do you plan on keeping that up if you don’t enjoy it?

Reframe how you think about your meditation practice so that you can bask in the enjoyment.  Whether it’s the Do Nothing technique or Neti Neti or just counting your breaths, enjoy the process. That’s crucial.

-Making spirituality all about productivity and attaining some idealized future to avoid the present is a corruption of what spirituality is truly about.  If your spiritual practice isn't aligned with joy and a satisfaction with existence, then there's something deeply askew.

You could also broaden that lesson out to the entire process of self-actualization and personal development and even your career or life purpose as well.

People Pleasing and Loneliness

“But Leo, how does being satisfied with nothing connect to people pleasing and loneliness?”

-People pleasing happens because you need others to fill you with love.  You're not satisfied with things the way they are, so you do a lot of work to get praise and approval from others.  It becomes an addiction.

On top of that, you’re never fully satisfied even when you do get their validation.  The afterglow of praise doesn’t last very long and it doesn't deeply fulfill you.  If you're not fundamentally happy, you'll probably doubt or criticize their praise.  “She didn’t really have a good time.  She was just being polite.”  “Okay, he complimented my hair, but what about my outfit?  He probably just wants to get laid.”  And so forth.

-Loneliness happens when you imagine that the present moment could be improved by having more people around you, or people to talk to, be intimate with, share experiences with and so forth.  It’s similar to people pleasing in that way.

The solution is to ground yourself in being satisfied with existence, by strengthening your Satisfaction Muscle.  That why you do the Satisfaction Meditation!

You'll notice that you don’t feel lonely while you're doing the Satisfaction Meditation, because you're satisfied with existence itself.  You don't need anyone else or anything more.  You’re alone, but you're not lonely.

Developing the deep capacity for satisfaction helps you to be non-needy and detached.  It will augment the joy you do get from relationships.

-This isn’t a license to become a recluse.  This doesn’t mean you never socialize or be intimate with other people.  That would be a mistake.  You should cultivate relationships, just not while you’re meditating.

Your Satisfaction Muscle

-The Satisfaction Meditation will help you build your Satisfaction Muscle, which is your ability to appreciate and be happy with the moment just as it is.  The effect of building your Satisfaction Muscle will spillover into other areas of your life.  You will become happier, because you’ll be the source of happiness itself.

It’s the kind of joy that most people overlook, because it's not a sharp peak in pleasure.  It's not like a drug high or an orgasm.  It's a very steady, even keeled contentment.  It’s mild at first, but you can train it to levels of deep pleasure.  The satisfaction can even turn into ecstatic levels of joy and bliss.  Ultimately it can even turn into love.

Why love?   Because, you’ll start to fall in love with existence itself.  That’s the rock bottom of this practice.  Just a love of being conscious of being conscious of the eternal Now.

With enough practice, you’ll start experiencing mystical states and even some satoris.  Awakenings will happen as you sit there.  You’ve stopped chasing them, but they’ll start happening because you've fully surrendered to the present moment.

-As you build up your Satisfaction Muscle , you can go out into the world and apply the Satisfaction Meditation to everyday situations, like filing paperwork, grocery shopping, waiting in line at the DMV, etc.  Usually you’d be irritated while sitting in traffic, but instead you can let go of your impatience and turn that into a Satisfaction Meditation.  Also, when you go for a walk in the park, you can really be there and enjoy the beauty that’s all around you instead of being stuck in your head.

Spirituality & Embracing The Now

-Spirituality is the ability to cultivate your love for existence itself and be satisfied with whatever IS. It’s about developing an appreciation and satisfaction with the present that will carry over into every moment of your life.

-Ordinarily we ignore the present moment as we go about surviving in the world.  We get distracted trying to solve some problem or chase some goal, just to improve how existence feels.  That can lead to anxiety and worry.

Instead, practice being happy right now, for no good reason.  Isn't that how you imagine you’d be if you were awakened?  Think of it like this:

  • If you can just sit and allow yourself to be content, do you even need enlightenment?
  • Do you really need mystical experiences?
  • What more do you want, but satisfaction?
  • Why not short circuit all of that and go straight to the satisfaction?

-You’re chasing these experiences because you believe they will satisfy you.  What if you don't need to jump through all these hoops?

The present moment is Absolute Truth.  It’s God.  Love.  Spirit.  Consciousness.  Nirvana.  Shunyata.  Teotl.  Fana.  Shiva.  The Groundless Ground.  Mu.  The Tao.  The Force.  It’s right here, right now.  It’s just a matter of developing the ability to become conscious of it.

The Trap of Chasing Enlightenment

"But Leo, if I'm just sitting here satisfied and that’s the bulk of my meditation, will I ever reach enlightenment?  Where's my awakening?  I wanna be wise goddamn it!!”

-No meditation can guarantee you will become enlightened.  If you’ve been doing a lot of pushing during meditation for months and years, and you’re still not enlightened, maybe you need to try something new?

Don’t fixate on achieving some mystical state or becoming enlightened while you meditate. If you have that attitude, even at the back of your mind, you're not doing it right.  It’s important you let that attachment go.  Just be satisfied with the present moment.

You’re chasing some future fantasy, which is not what awakening is about.  The anxiety of pushing for a result is sabotaging your ability to be present.

-You might do this especially if you’ve attained crazy high peaks of consciousness through psychedelics.  You can override that impatience by focusing on being satisfied with what is.  Meditation is its own end, and in this case, meditation is about savouring satisfaction.

⦿ What you really want is to be more present.

If you’re constantly trying to achieve a mystical experience, you’re distracted by anticipating some future result.  That takes you out of the present moment.  Worrying and anticipating are future oriented fantasies.  It distracts you from your practice and becomes counter-productive.

       ⦿ Chasing becomes frustrating.

With a chasing mindset, meditation can feel like a waste if you don’t “achieve enlightenment in 30 minutes.”  You might even shame yourself, which creates a negative association to your meditation practice.

The meditation becomes another means to an end, when it should be the end itself.  If you're chasing some fantasy state with meditation, that ensures you're never going to be satisfied with most of your meditations.

⦿ Chasing happiness makes you unhappy.

Unhappiness is imagining there’s something you should have, but don’t have, and that having it is the only way to become happy.  This ensures you'll be unhappy until you get that thing, and even if you do get it you’ll only be happy for a moment.

-True happiness is nothing more than being satisfied with exactly what is happening right here, right now, whatever that might be.  That's the root of happiness.  So, the counter-intuitive move here is to short circuit that whole process.  To say, “why can't I be satisfied right now?” and then actually practice that.

-Turn this into a quasi-challenge for yourself.  How satisfied can I be with nothing special?  How satisfied can I be with raw existence as it is, without needing to change anything?

Satisfaction and Productivity

The Satisfaction Meditation is harder than it sounds, because we often don't allow ourselves to be “happy for no reason.”

“But Leo, being happy is going to rob me of my motivation!  If I can be happy doing nothing, then why would I keep working on Wall Street or on my business or chasing millions of babes and dollars…?”

One could argue that being satisfied is counterproductive to survival.  Counterintuitively, that’s a good thing that you actually want.

First, being happy makes you smarter, more resilient, more observant and more capable in a multitude of ways, which makes it easier to achieve goals.  Happiness actually fuels success.  It’s not the other way around.  (Shawn Achor has a lot of good books and lectures about this subject.  )

Second, if you’re honest, has any of that activity ever made you truly satisfied?  No.  It's just put you on an endless treadmill of chasing chasing chasing.  If you keep that up you’re going to waste your whole life chasing stuff and never being satisfied.

Dopamine tricks your mind into the fantasy that attaining some goal will complete you.  It’s common to fixate on the chase and overestimate how fulfilling money, sex, and approval will be.  It happens to everyone, even the most logical among us ?.

-Focusing on satisfaction doesn’t mean you’re going to sit on your ass and do nothing for the rest of your life.  You should develop a strong work ethic, a life purpose and meaningful relationships.  You most likely need them to feel deeply satisfied with life.  So don't be a slouch.

You can do all those things, but that needs to be the icing on the cake, not the cake itself.  The cake is the Satisfaction Meditation and other practices that develop that muscle.  A stronger Satisfaction Muscle will improve all those other domains of life.

-Something fundamentally different needs to happen.  So when are you going to wise up and realize that's not going to work?  When you truly “get it” you’ll actually start practicing the Satisfaction Meditation consistently.

Instant Gratification Culture

-For most people, their Satisfaction Muscle is feeble because we live in a culture of instant gratification.  It’s filled with social media, viral content, video games, loot boxes, tv & movies, fast food, porn and engineers in Silicon Valley using the most seductive bait to trigger those dopamine hits as fast and as frequently as possible.

It’s a trick of your mind to think that chasing instant gratification and excitement is a wise and sustainable lifestyle.  That’s what you realize after wasting years partying, drinking, masturbating, sexing people, taking drugs, having caviar in fancy cars. You end up crashing into dissatisfaction.

-Those dopamine peaks never last no matter how enjoyable.  That’s why you can finish one video game and still go searching for the next one, because no single video game has ever satisfied you.  There's not enough money you can get on Wall Street or the casino to make those dopamine peaks sustainable.

That’s why you need a root solution to the problem of unhappiness, otherwise you're always going to be unhappy.

Two Different Reward Systems

(Harvard trained physician Dr. K has an excellent explanation of dopamine at Healthy Gamer.  Some of the following details about dopamine come from him.)

-Dopamine chasing is ultimately unfulfilling because it has to do with wanting pleasure, not experiencing pleasure.  When you do something rewarding the brain releases dopamine to reinforce that behavior by motivating you to want more of it.  Dopamine does not cause the feeling or receiving of pleasure.  Basically, wanting and enjoying happen in different parts of the brain.

-Also, Dopamine isn’t “bad.”  If you have too little dopamine you’ll be totally unmotivated.  It just has to be properly balanced and not constantly chased as a lifestyle.

-Your brain has two different reward circuits: the Dopamine Circuit and the Satisfaction Circuit.

The Dopamine Circuit rewards you for sharp, positive changes in your survival situation, like stumbling on a hundred dollar bill, eating candy or playing a video game.  It’s a very short lasting reward.  When you get a dopamine spike you feel very happy for a few minutes, an hour, maybe even a day, then you drop back down to your default state.

High Dopamine Activities: People pleasing.  Partying.  Winning the lottery.  Watching TV.  Eating a greasy cheeseburger.  A promotion at work.  Finding a new romantic partner.  Taking drugs.  Chris Evans musical tribute videos, etc.

Because it triggers wanting instead of pleasure, you can get hit after hit and still feel compelled to chase more dopamine delivery systems (food, Netflix, video games, etc.)  After all, if dopamine caused pleasure directly, you wouldn’t need to keep chasing more pleasure because you’d already be experiencing pleasure.

The Satisfaction Circuit is rooted in the prefrontal cortex instead of dopamine spikes.  The Prefrontal Cortex is the part of the brain that’s in charge of discipline, wisdom and all the qualities of the higher self.

When you practice the Satisfaction Meditation, you’re strengthening the reward circuit of your Higher Self.  (ep: Low vs High Quality Consciousness).  It raises your baseline for happiness and consciousness.

The Prefrontal Cortex also contains the pineal gland and/or third eye and receives dopamine through the mesocortical pathway.  People with a strong Mesocortical Pathway have excellent willpower, vision, motivation and long term planning (among other positive qualities).  One of the ways to develop that is through meditation.

-No wonder most people are dissatisfied with life!  Nobody taught them the difference between the dopamine circuit and satisfaction circuit.  If you're not convinced of the benefits of strengthening the Satisfaction circuit, try spending the next 5 or 10 years desperately chasing those dopamine peaks.  You'll realize it doesn't work.

Some More Info on Dopamine

     • Dopamine release is about reinforcing a behavior through wanting.  It’s a carrot on a stick.  Trainers will hold up a carrot on a stick in front of a donkey and the donkey will keep chasing it forever and ever, never reaching the carrot.

     • Dopamine problems hurt your ability to delay gratification because it inhibits the part of the brain that’s involved in cost-benefit analysis.  It makes instant gratification much more tempting, so you end up constantly making choices that are low reward for low effort.

     • Dopamine Exhaustion makes activities that promote your health and well-being a lot less enjoyable ?.  Dopamine Tolerance eventually leads to Dopamine Exhaustion, where you have a vastly diminished ability to enjoy simple things.   Reading a book or going for a walk becomes boring, because your body’s used to much higher amounts of dopamine than a book or walk provide.

     • If you do it long enough, you’ll end up creating a war between what you should do versus what you’re tempted to do to get that quick, easy dopamine hit.  Thing is, you don’t actually want the donut or video game.  It’s not as pleasurable as you imagine.  Your dopamine is just throwing up false flares.

     • Dopamine chasing reinforces behaviors that aren’t even fun!  You keep indulging in something even though it’s more numbing than enjoyable.  (That’s a sign you really need a dopamine detox to reset your levels.)

     • It can take anywhere between three weeks to three months to go through a full dopamine detox.

     • Having said that, dopamine is necessary.  You just need to regulate it properly.  If you have too little you’ll be totally unmotivated, but you also shouldn't turn dopamine chasing into a lifestyle.

     • Most of us have gotten addicted to dopamine hits, even if we're not doing drugs.  What’s worse, your brain builds a tolerance to dopamine, so the more hits you chase the bigger amount you need to get the same effect.

Double Unhappiness

If you don't cultivate your Satisfaction Muscle your mindset can get so bad that you’ll still be unhappy in beautiful, extraordinary situations.  Maybe you’ve experienced that first hand.

You’re sitting on a mountaintop with the love of your life, watching the sunset, admiring the scatter of twilight across the horizon.  You’ve spent all day hiking up the mountain just to arrive at the perfect time and it's only going to last a few minutes.  The weather is perfect, the location is perfect, the sunset is perfect, the person you’re with is perfect, but you're still not happy ?.

You know the situation is perfect and that you should be happy, but you're not.  That’s a double dose of unhappiness, because you’re unhappy, and you’re unhappy that you're unhappy.  You may even start wondering,

“If I can't be happy when the stars are aligned, what chance do I have of being happy at all, ever, period?  What if nothing makes me happy?  What if I’m doomed to be sad forever?”

That’s when a lot of people get depressed or even suicidal.  That’s because nothing can make you truly happy other than yourself. The only long term solution is to train your Satisfaction Muscle to the point where you're satisfied with existence itself.

Stop Living Life By the Numbers

Stop living your life for some arbitrary numerical metric, like dollars in your bank account, or cars in your garage, or the number on your bathroom scale, or even number of books you've read.  That can get very dysfunctional.  Numbers on a spreadsheet won't satisfy you in the ultimate scheme of things (even if you’re a mathematician!)

Leo used to have a demanding, results obsessed mindset where he quantified everything.  His attitude was to just grind through work, suck up any suffering and achieve the result.  It was a very left-brained, unhealthy, dysfunctional, stage orange approach to life. It was toxic, unsustainable, and it didn’t lead to satisfaction.

The Problems with Grinding

       1) It’s based in being “not good enough.”

“But Leo, I’ve got so many things to do and I’m already behind in life.  I’ve got to become spiritual, confident, fearless, more loving, nicer to people who secretly irritate me, or just better all around.  Do you know how hard it is to navigate reality when you’re not perfect, like those people on Instagram…”

You have an idealized image that you feel you must live up to in order to be “good enough.”  Problem is, if you feel bad about failing to live up to that, you’ll be too demoralized to take consistent, long-term action.

       2) It’s unsustainable.

You might be below your ideal target for years because it takes time to build skill.  It’s unsustainable to spend all that time feeling demoralized and not enough.

       3) It makes you cut corners in practice.

When you don’t enjoy practicing, you can get sloppy.  If you’re just grinding through, you’ll cut corners so you can get it over with and do something that you truly enjoy.

       4) It stops you from entering a flow state.

A flow state happens when you lose all sense of yourself in an activity.  It becomes effortless, like you have the creative force of the universe backing up your actions.  The thing is, flow comes from freeing yourself up, not from trying to finish things quickly.

       5) Grinding changes “I want to” into “I have to.”

If your practice is demoralizing, unsustainable, toxic and unenjoyable, it’ll feel like such a drag that you have to force yourself to do it.  You might forget why you wanted to accomplish the goal in the first place.  (Teal Swan has an excellent episode about this: “Have to…The Philosophy that Will Ruin Your Life”)

       6) The most effective motivation “moves towards” something inspiring, not just “away from” something negative.

Leo has an excellent episode about this: Positive vs Negative Motivation.  It’s one of his best about life purpose and motivation.  It’s based on the excellent book “The Path of Least Resistance” by Robert Fritz.

Leo’s Reading Example

When Leo first got into personal development 10 years ago, he wanted to develop himself as quickly as possible:

“Let me achieve as much as I can, as fast as I can, to hell with how it feels!”

Leo had a mountain of books to read.  He figured if he could master speed reading he could read ten times as many books.  So he got a speed reading book and started going through the exercises everyday.

After a month of tedious grinding, his practice became so unpleasant it was actually counterproductive.  He realized he would rather read at a normal, enjoyable pace than speed read through books, worrying about whether he understood or remembered the material correctly.  His boredom, worry and attachment to the outcome of speed-reading was stopping him from entering a good flow of absorbing the book’s information.

Nowadays, Leo reads pretty slowly but enjoys himself and focuses on absorbing the contents of the book. (Considering how long and dense his book list is he can’t be that slow at reading.)

So, it doesn't matter how fast you read, because the point is not to read X number of books.  The point is to enjoy yourself.  If you end up reading half as many books, but enjoy them twice as much, it’s even more of a win.

So, you can read a book in an enjoyable way, or in a grinding, unpleasant way.  The better way is to enjoy the process so that you keep doing it without burning out.  Enjoy your career or business.  Enjoy your relationships and enjoy watching yourself grow mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually.

Watching Actualized.org Episodes

Another example of slowing down to be more effective is watching Actualized.org episodes.  There’s at least two different ways to watch them:

       1) You can binge a ton of episodes.

“But Leo, I’ve stumbled upon this gold mine of information!  I need to get through these big, meaty, complicated episodes as fast as possible.  I’ll just binge watch 500 episodes with a pot of coffee, some modafinil, a stack of legal pads for notes, an even bigger stack of armodafinil, and that eyeball machine from A Clockwork Orange…then I’ll be wise!!”

       2) Or you can slow down and enjoy the process.

When you watch Leo’s videos, find a sustainable pace that you can enjoy, instead of binging so many they become a blur.  Maybe you only watch one video a week instead of one a day.  In the long run you’ll watch a lot more episodes if you enjoy the process.

Also, if you take time to pause and contemplate what’s being said, you'll get more benefit by concentrating on fewer episodes in a deeper way.

When you slow down and get into the rhythm of an activity, you enter a flow state and lose all sense of yourself.  Whatever you're doing becomes effortless when you're in flow, because you’re not putting stressful demands and distracting expectations on yourself.  Flow comes from trying to do things freely, instead of trying to do things well.

Deeply Contemplate Happiness

-You need to deeply contemplate happiness.  If you can't clearly articulate what happiness is, how can you ever be happy?  Happiness is not a belief or an ideology.  It's not enough for you to just believe what Leo says about happiness. You have to actually derive, for yourself, what happiness is.

-You figure it out through contemplation and direct experience.  This will help you to distinguish between authentic happiness and dopamine peaks of pleasure.  When you’re happy, notice what’s causing it.  When you’re unhappy, also notice what’s causing it.  Another way to frame the question is:

What if there's a form of happiness that doesn’t create a downward shift into dissatisfaction after it ends?

-If you do the Satisfaction Meditation enough, maybe you'll discover it’s pointing you towards authentic happiness, to a type of pleasure that doesn’t create suffering.  Don’t mistake dopamine peaks for authentic happiness.  They're not.  Those dopamine peaks actually create suffering.  This distinction is crucial.

Life Purpose and Happiness

-The happiness you get from your Life Purpose is different than the dopamine spikes of a video game.  When you find your life purpose and align with it, it triggers a different reward mechanism, similar to the Satisfaction Meditation.  Instead of dopamine swings, it leads to a deep contentment with life.  Bliss and joy can be reached this way.

“But Leo, the contentment from LP won’t be permanent either!”

Of course it won't. But there’s a difference between getting attached to satisfaction and enjoying satisfaction while it’s here.  This does not mean you cannot meditate on the feeling of satisfaction itself.  In fact, doing so is how you escape suffering.

  • eg: People misunderstand Buddhism’s non-attachment and impermanence as “life is suffering, nihilistic and empty” or “this is why Buddhists can’t have nice things.”  However, the Buddhist notion of suffering and impermanence basically means that chasing material conditions and positive states is dissatisfying because it never lasts.  So you’re guaranteed to suffer.
  • clip: Lose Attachments to Gain Infinite Love (9 mins)

-Appreciating bliss and satisfaction in the here and now is a far better way to live than chasing dopamine hits, which is what most people are doing.  Think of it this way:

In every moment you can either be satisfied or dissatisfied. Which will you be?

Applying Insights: From Abstract to Concrete

-You need to develop practical techniques for implementing all the high level, big picture, abstract ideas that Leo talks about.  In this episode you got a very tangible practice.  A lot of episodes don’t and won’t provide that.

-You need to take ownership of your own personal development.  You won’t build muscle by trying to get Leo to lift the weights for you.  That goes for all self-help teachers, books, courses and insights.

-To get the most value out of Actualized.org watch out for two traps: listening idly and not taking action.  You can’t just listen distractedly as you cook or do laundry, unless you’re totally new to this content and have trouble focusing.  You could start there, but to get results you need to focus.

-No matter what level you’re at in your spiritual journey, you must take effective action to get results.  You need to develop the ability to take any insight and ask:

  • “How do I turn this abstract idea into something I can implement in my life?”
  • “How can I practice this wisdom and embody it?”

-For every profound insight you get, brainstorm different methods to apply it.  See which ones work and which ones don’t.  That’s where your results will come from!

i'd say you are permitted one mistake every 500 episodes ... but after that you will be docked future awakenings... xD

In that case I'd better move to Amsterdam xD

I'll repost the corrected list on the next page, which will be nine posts from now.

I wish there wasn't a 48hr edit window, especially for a thread like this.  I think it's so trolls can't erase their past posts or something.

I swear I'm not a troll.  I have no idea how to guard a bridge!!

-All Actualized.org info about psychedelics can be found at: ? Actualized.org on Psychedelics ?

-Warning!!  The information provided here is strictly for educational purposes.  Misusing 5-MeO-DMT can be lethal.  If you haven’t already, watch episode: The Top Dangers Of Using Psychedelics. (Summary is here)

-5-MeO-DMT is one of the most important psychedelics for transforming your consciousness and attaining enlightenment.  It’s not about tripping, partying or having pleasurable experiences.  It’s about raising your consciousness to the highest levels humanly possible.

-People sometimes confuse 5-MeO-DMT and regular DMT, but they’re not the same at all.  5-MeO-DMT is ten to twenty times more powerful, which is crazy if you've ever tried regular DMT.  5-MeO produces qualitatively different results, so it's not just more of the same.  Don't confuse 5-MeO with other types of DMT!

Fake Magic Pill or Super Effective Technique?

-There’s a lot of anti-magic pill dogma among people in personal development, that anything resembling a shortcut is bad, inauthentic and should not be done.

Thing is, the reason magic pills are looked down on and avoided is because they don’t work.  So, we’re not opposed to magic pills on principle.  If you're opposed to anything on principle that's ego and dogma.  Magic pills should be avoided when they’re faulty and have bad consequences.

(Things like get rich quick schemes, chocolate & bacon weight loss diets, fruit fly traps that don’t catch freaking flies, more than half the gadgets on Shark Tank…)

-A magic pill is really just a technology that works very effectively and can save you a lot of time or energy.  The history of civilization is driven by many successful, highly effective inventions or magic pills.

eg: Computers, the printing press, the internet, penicillin, medical surgery, electricity, your cellphone, the calculator, the Disney+ Yodalorian channel to babysit your kids so you can get some peace and quiet, etc.

-The real question about a magic pill is whether or not it’s effective.  The only way you can know if a technology works is by trying it yourself, through trial and error.  Then you can see what the long-term consequences are and whether or not it’s effective and sustainable.

Consciousness raising work is so important it’s worth using whatever ethical methods or techniques are out there.

Ancient Techniques Examined

“But Leo, isn’t it better to follow traditional methods like the masters?  Using psychedelics to create some mystical experience isn’t authentic, so it doesn’t count…”

A lot of people hold dogma when it come to their personal, spiritual tradition, because the ego is so involved.

For the vast majority of people, only using traditional methods is impractical because those methods are ridiculously hardcore.  They’re so shockingly extreme no one would do them.  It’s a good idea to research the history of spirituality and the hardcore extremes that spiritual masters have gone to pursue enlightenment.  (Leo’s booklist has a bunch of books on that.)

       Ancient Hindu Yoga

This wasn’t like modern yoga at the gym.  They used special, exotic ways of breathing to reach union with God.  They would use a knife to snip the ligament that attaches the yogi’s tongue to the bottom of his mouth so that he could curl his tongue back into his throat and up his nostrils.  This allowed him to breathe a little bit more efficiently and attain enlightenment faster.  Yogis have been doing that for thousands of years.  It’s tradition!

Also, meditation in the East isn’t just 15 mins of listening to some Deepak Chopra audio.  It’s a very hardcore tradition where you can sit for hundreds or thousands of hours in a row meditating until you reach enlightenment.  That’s very difficult to practice even if you join an ashram.

       Starvation

People have been starving themselves to near death since the beginning of spiritual traditions.  This isn’t just fasting, but actual starving to produce higher consciousness, visionary experiences.  Think of Jesus or the Buddha.

Native Americans have traditions like the vision quest where they send you out into the wilderness or a barren desert with no food and no water for three or four days.  You're on the brink of death, in the scorching sun with no water until you start hallucinating and seeing visions.  That was all done for spiritual purposes.

       The Sundance Tradition

This isn’t the glitzy film festival or five star ski resort.  It’s a tradition from Native American tribes.  They would take you to a tree and stick metal spokes into the flesh of your abdomen, producing lifelong scars.  Then they’d tie a rope to the metal skewers, tie the other end to the tree and have you run around singing and dancing in the burning scorching heat to induce visions of higher consciousness states.

       Old-School Baptism

It’s not like modern day baptism.  Originally, they would submerge your head under water until you were nearly drowned to death.  Only then would they lift you out of the water.  The purpose was to take you to the brink of death and then bring you back to life to induce some spiritual effects.

       Asceticism

Ascetics have existed for thousands of years, since the very beginning of spiritual seeking.  They would live by themselves in the mountains or desert, isolated for decades.  It was a life or death decision because three thousand years ago you couldn’t have provisions shipped to you by Amazon.  You couldn’t bring cans of beans or bottles of water.  You’d also have to deal with marauders, thieves and warlords who could kill you at anytime because you're completely defenceless.

(I guess after all of that, snorting and plugging doesn’t seem so bad?)

Psychedelics are an Ancient Wisdom Technique

       • Psychedelic mushrooms have been the foundation of many spiritual and religious traditions for thousands of years, including Christianity, Native American tribes, South American culture, African, Indian, Aboriginal Australian, New Zealand culture and so forth.

Hinduism in India, humanity’s oldest spiritual tradition.  The Rigveda, one of Hinduism’s ancient sacred texts, describes a substance called soma.  We don't know exactly what soma is, but our best guess is that it's the amanita muscaria mushroom or the psilocybe cubensis mushroom.  The psychedelic mushroom was highly regarded in Hinduism.  Given that Hinduism is humanity’s oldest tradition of non-duality, shrooms might be how human beings discovered enlightenment in the first place.

The Ancient Greeks and the Eleusis mysteries. Each year thousands of people would gather in a temple to do psychedelics by drinking kykeon.  This practice was part of mainstream culture.  So it wasn’t just a fringe group of Ancient Greek hippies.

Kykeon would send people into a rapture with visions of various deities.  The Ancient Greeks had found a way to derive LSD from ergot, a fungus that grows on wheat, so that’s likely what was in kykeon.

This practice lasted for 2000 years until the fall of the Roman Empire.  All the major Greeks and Romans of the time partook in this, including Plato, Aristotle, Cicero, Emperor Nero and those are just the ones we know of for sure.

       • Psychedelics have been closely linked to spirituality from the very beginning of time, so there's nothing sacrilegious or inauthentic about using them.  We must be careful not to bring ego into this and say that the most hardcore, traditional ways are the most valid.  A lot of them are just impractical.

People who are interested in experiencing God don't care about defying tradition. Hardcore truth seekers will use whatever methods they can, including psychedelics.

       • As humanity evolves we should expect new technologies will rise that make it much easier to attain enlightenment.  That's what we're experiencing now because we have the luxury of modern chemistry.  Psychedelics have so much potential, they should be studied and embraced not rejected.

       • 5-MeO-DMT raises your consciousness to infinity while also reducing your ego down to zero, which makes it the ideal technology for enlightenment.  Within 5 to 15 mins you will experience God and yourself as Absolute Infinity.  5-MeO produces 100% pure ego death, very consistently.  There aren't a lot of visuals with 5-MeO.  You remain lucid and clear.  You don't go on any mystical journeys.

“But Leo, 5-MeO just creates a temporary experience, so how does that help you become permanently enlightened?”

In order to become permanently enlightened you need to have multiple enlightenment experiences before they stick. The point is that each high consciousness experience increases your awareness higher and higher and higher until something finally cracks open and enlightenment happens.  The first awakening experience doesn’t usually stick.

Sure there are stories of masters who became fully enlightened in a flash, but that’s extremely rare and impractical for most people.  People who awaken easily probably have the type of genetics that produce 5-MeO naturally and abundantly.

Also, taking psychedelics doesn’t mean you should stop meditating, self-actualizing, or doing self-inquiry.  Psychedelics will just multiply your current spiritual practices by a thousand fold.

How to Use 5-MeO-DMT

There are two types of 5-MeO: natural and synthetic.

The natural version comes from the Bufo Alvarius toad or Colorado River toad.  These toads produce a substance from the glands on their arms and legs.  This liquid is 5-MeO (plus some other chemicals.)  You can collect this liquid, smoke it and have your trip.  You need to smoke the substance.  Licking the toad won’t do anything but poison you or make you throw up ?.  The toad won’t even turn into a prince ?.

If you decide to look for these toads remember that there’s a limited supply.  There’s only one toad in the world that produces 5-MeO, so don’t harm the toads or destroy their natural habitat!!  In fact, it’s much easier to just buy synthetic 5-MeO.

The second type of 5-MeO is the synthetic version that’s created in a lab.  It's an off-white tannish powder with the consistency of moist table salt. (21:00)

5-MeO.png

The synthetic version comes in two different forms: the HCL form and the Freebase form.  The freebase form needs to be smoked. The HCL form needs to be snorted. Confusing those two will result in lots of pain.  Each version produces slightly different effects.

      Plugging/Boofing 5-MeO

5-MeO can also be plugged, but Leo doesn’t talk about that in this episode.  He has said elsewhere that plugging 5-MeO is the best way to take it.  There’s a video about plugging psychedelics in general on his blog.  When plugging any substance for the first time, it's a good idea to start with 10mg on your first trip, then increase the dose by 5mg for the next trip, and the next, until you find a breakthrough dose.

The HCL version is generally used for plugging, although you can plug the Freebase version too.  Freebase dissolves poorly in water, so you’ll have to do stuff to make it pluggable.    You can use vinegar and/or light coconut milk.  A demo of this can be found here on youtube, but always do your own thorough research.

Some people have a high tolerance to the effects of plugging, so getting an enema might help.

       Smoking 5-MeO

Smoking the freebase form makes it act very quickly, within 10 to 20 seconds.  It just hits you powerfully, like a sledgehammer.  It lasts around 5, 10, maybe 20 minutes at most, then you come back down.

By smoking 5-MeO, you get pummelled for a few minutes and then you come back and think, “What the hell was that?”  It’s so short it can be disorienting and very confusing.  You don’t want to just experience some cool stuff.  You also want to understand what you're experiencing.

       Snorting 5-MeO

Snorting the HCL form takes 10 mins to activate.  The effect comes on more gradually, but it's still very, very powerful and the peak lasts longer.  It lasts for 30 to 40 minutes and then after 40 minutes you come back down to normal.

Snorting is preferable for consciousness work, because we’re trying to understand the true nature of reality and what's happening to us so we can take that understanding back into everyday life.  The longer peak of snorting is more conducive to that.

       • It’s very important that you use a micro scoop to weigh the doses of your substance.  5-MeO is so potent that every single milligram counts, whether you're smoking or snorting it.  A few milligrams means the difference between a light dose and a heavy dose.

       • Micro scoops are more accurate than milligram scales.  Scales can be wildly inaccurate, unless they’re super expensive and laboratory grade.  But they’re fine for measuring shrooms and maybe even DPT.

          Drake-Scoops-Scales.jpg

Freebase Doses (smoking)

  • Uses slightly lower doses than snorting.
  • Starting dose: 10 mg
  • Average dose: 15 mg
  • High dose: 20 mg
  • 25 mg is the most you should ever do.

HCL Doses (snorting)

  • Uses slightly higher doses than smoking.
  • Starting dose: 20 mg
  • Average dose: 25 mg
  • Breakthrough dose: 30 mg
  • 30 mg is the most you should ever do.

       • These doses assume that you're a normal, healthy individual.  That you do not have health risks, are not on medication and are not mixing 5-MeO with alcohol or any other drugs.

       • If you overdose on 5-MeO you’ll probably go unconscious for the duration of the experience and wake up after 10, 20, 30 mins not knowing what happened.

       • You must always do 5-MeO on an empty stomach.  Make sure you haven’t eaten for at least 4 hours.  Keep your meals as light and healthy as possible on the day you plan to trip.  If you are hungry, drink some fresh fruit/vegetable fruit up to 1 hour before.  The last hour before your trip is most critical.  It is best not to eat anything at all.  Also, go to the bathroom before you take the substance.

      • Keep in mind, if you overdose, black out and vomit while on this substance, you could choke to death.   For that reason, if you feel nauseated, lie down on your side instead of your back.  Or just make sure your stomach is empty.

       • You can also experience seizures or heart issues because 5-MeO elevates your heart rate and blood pressure.

       • You should be aiming for a breakthrough dose to experience Absolute Infinity.  Leo’s breakthrough dose was 30 mg.  You don't want to just try this once out of curiosity.  Start with a low dose, then work your way up until you get a breakthrough experience.  Going slow prevents you from overshooting the dose you need for a breakthrough.

Directions for Snorting 5-MeO

           1.  Weigh out the dose into two halves.  So if you’re taking 30 milligrams, weigh out two separate batches of 15 mg.  You want two halves so that there’s one for each nostril.  That way you can absorb more of it.

           2.  Next create a little plastic tube.  You can get a plastic straw and cut it short.  You can also roll a piece of paper or a post-it note.  (Contrary to movies, you don’t need a rolled up $100 bill or a fake Cuban accent :P)

           3.  Snort the two piles of white powder, one pile per nostril.  (You can also arrange them into two separate lines if it’s easier, or if you like pretending you’re in a rap video or working on Wall Street.)

           4.  It’ll burn and sting a bit, sort of like snorting finely ground white pepper.  Some people don't like that sensation, but Leo finds it oddly interesting.

Any physical discomfort isn’t a big deal because the experience you're about to go on is so freaking explosive and crazy that you're not going to have any issues with your nose.  You'll completely forget about all that.  After you snort it you’ve got about five or ten minutes until it hits you really hard.

           5.  Sit on your couch and drop your head forward until it’s upside down and almost touching the carpet.  You’re doing this so that the 5-MeO doesn't leak out the front of your nose or out the back of your throat.

If it leaks out the front or the back you're going to lose a large quantity of the substance and it's not going to absorb into the nostril tissues.  Then the trip will be far, far, far less potent.

DMTcouchsit.jpg

Take a position that’s comfortable but also prevents the 5-MeO from dripping out your nose or the back of your throat.  You can also tilt forward from your knees.

           6.  Hold your nose closed to prevent dripping.  While you’re down there, you can also massage your nose for a few minutes to help the 5-MeO absorb into your nostrils.

           7.  Stay like that for about five or ten minutes until the 5-MeO absorbs.  Get comfy!  Let all the stuff accumulate in your nose.

           8. Make sure it doesn’t drip anywhere.  Let it absorb into the flesh of your nose and go straight to your brain.  As your head is down there, you're going to start feeling the effects.

           9. When you know the 5-MeO has gotten totally absorbed, you can lift your head up, sit back and relax.

           10.  Have some tissues handy to wipe your nose.  You’ll probably still have a little bit of leakage, so keep sniffing all the 5-MeO in.  Don't let it leak out.  You don't want to waste the substance.  Leo demonstrates this at 28:33.

           11.  Wait for God to hit you up.  You’re going to get hit really hard by the way…

           12.  Relax your body and surrender to the experience. At first, you're going to experience terror, fear and panic…but remember, bad trips happen from resisting the experience.

Fully Surrender

-Surrender fully to the experience.  This is the number one rule that you need to remember to have a good experience.  What does this mean?  When you're starting to freak out and tense up, when your body starts contorting, open up physically.

  • Make sure your arms and legs aren't crossed.
  • Let every muscle go limp and loose.
  • Relax your mind.
  • Use any meditative techniques you know to calm yourself down.  (This is where a regular meditation practice comes in very handy.)
  • That means if you're gonna die, you're gonna die, and you're fine with it.  Just accept it and give in.  This is what will save you.

-Many people can't do that.  If you decide you don't want to enter Absolute Infinity, and you're just going to sit in your little ego, it’ll be like pushing the gas full throttle in your car and hitting the brakes right after.  In which case you’ll have a horrible, horrible experience.

You’ll be magnifying all the negatives while eliminating all the amazing, positive possibilities because you’re resisting.  That's going to be terrible.

-If you read trip reports about 5-MeO there’s a huge range of experiences, from the most horrific and hellish to the most beautiful and divine.  Why is that?  People don’t know about the ego or non-duality or how to surrender.  That's when they have a hellish experience.  So, while you’re sitting on the couch, freaking out as the 5-MeO kicks in, remember to…

Fully Surrender, Relax and Open Your Body

How 5-MeO Feels…

-When you fully surrender to the experience, it will engulf you and launch you to the peak.  The peak experience is nothing short of experiencing the Godhead as Absolute Infinity.  God is not a person.  God is absolutely everything that's possible.

So you can experience that.  You can become that.  When you do it'll be such a shocking experience that you’ll think your life has ended.  You have ascended to Nirvana.

This peak will feel permanent.  You’ll feel immortal, invulnerable and these will not be delusions.  It will be the truth.  It will feel more true to you than anything you've ever known in your entire life.  You will immediately recognize that your entire life is a dream, that collective human reality is a dream.  It’s all a dream, and you’ve finally awoken from it!

It's a life-changing experience.  You could meditate for ten, twenty years and never go this deep.

-5-MeO rips your ego away from you.  Your ego is your self concept, your attachments, everything you identify with and what helps you survive.  While that’s dipping to zero, your consciousness will start skyrocketing.  It can be pretty freaky.

Although 5-MeO isn’t physically painful, it will make you feel like you're going away and you might not come back.  Of course you are coming back, but you're not sure of that while it's happening.

So you're gonna have to face your own death before you can see God.  The only thing blocking you from God is your ego, and that has got to go, but it won't go without a struggle.

Why Isn’t Everyone Doing 5-MeO?

“But Leo, if 5-MeO is so wonderful why isn’t everyone doing it?  Why doesn’t everyone know about it?”

       • Your ego and ego death, which is a huge catch.  Your ego will do anything to maintain itself, its delusions and not die.  With this substance you're going to be subjecting your ego to its own death. That’s very scary if you don't know what it's like to face death.

       • Closed-mindedness.  Most people (maybe even you) don’t want to take this substance and experience everything it has to offer.  If you take 5-MeO, every single one of your worldviews and beliefs will be shattered.  Are you open to that?  If you're not you won't come near this substance.

       • Ignorance.  Many people don’t actually know about it.  If everyone knew about the potential of 5-MeO we'd be living in a totally different world.

      • Maturity level.  Many people can’t handle having all their beliefs and ideas about reality shattered within minutes.  Many lack the emotional and psychological maturity to deal with that.

      • That’s why 5-MeO isn’t a straightforward magic pill that any idiot can use.  It's a powerful tool and like every powerful tool, it can be abused.

      • It’s illegal and can be difficult to find depending on what country you’re from.  Make sure to check the laws where you live.  If it’s illegal, it would be totally worth it to travel to a country where it is legal and try 5-MeO.  People travel to places like Peru to do ayahuasca ceremonies and 5-MeO is way more powerful and pleasant.  Peru is also farther away for some people than Mexico or Canada.

      • A breakthrough 5-MeO experience will do more for you than flying into outer space and seeing Earth from a spaceship, like those billionaires keep trying to do.  That's how powerful it is.

Warnings & Tips

       • To get the benefits you have to be serious about enlightenment. You have to be a deep student or practitioner of non-duality.  Most people aren't.  So even if they do psychedelics it doesn't do much for them.

       • Research and do the groundwork on psychedelics.  Learn how they work,  where they come from, what kind of experiences people have had on them.  Trip reports are great for this.

       • Psychological risks.  You could have a horrible trip, or even just misinterpret your trip and destabilize your sense of reality.  If you haven't studied non-duality that’s especially a risk.

This will create an experience of total psychological, ego death in you. Are you ready for that?  Can you handle that?  If you're going to freak out don't take it.  If you can't surrender to death don't take it.

       • Physical Health risks. If you're a normal, healthy, psychologically mature adult then you should not experience any negative health effects, but of course there's risk with any medication you take, whether it prescription or non-prescription.  That's why you want to start with small doses.

According to trip reports and anecdotal evidence from others, it seems like you can do 5-MeO hundreds maybe even thousands of times without any negative health consequences.  But remember, you have to take full responsibility if you want to use this substance.

       • Don't take 5-MeO if you have a heart condition or high blood pressure, because in the first five or ten minutes your heart rate will go through the roof as you're experiencing your death.

       • Don't take it if you're on various medications, especially anti-depressants or antipsychotic medications.  Do not mix 5-MeO with those.

       • Don't take this if you're mentally unstable.

Don’t take this if you're under 21.  You're not going to be mature enough to fully understand, appreciate and integrate this experience.  Chances are it'll just freak you out and leave you confused. Build your foundation first then you can take it.

       • Always start with a low dose. This is interesting because with 5-MeO the low dose is more likely to give you a panic attack than a high dose because it’ll remove your ego, but won’t give you a big enough consciousness boost to experience absolute infinity. So the low dose will freak you out more, but you should still start low to get the freak out out of the way.  Then all your successive doses will go a lot smoother and be a lot easier.

       • You also don’t want to start with a large dose because you don't know how much it'll affect you. Some people might be very, very sensitive.  So for them an average dose might turn out to be too high.

       • It’s super critical that you weigh your dose very carefully and accurately.  Make sure you have a milligram scale and that it’s calibrated properly.  Remember that every milligram counts.

       • Only do 5-MeO in a safe setting.  It’s recommended that you only do it at home when you have the day off and nothing else to do.

       • Remove all the dangerous objects in your house, all the knives, the swords, guns, any sources of fire and do it in your living room where there are no sharp corners.  Where you can't hit your head accidentally or fall down some stairs or out a window.  Make your setting very very safe and comfortable.

       • Make sure that nobody can distract you.  Don't do it outside or at a party or with a bunch of friends.  Doing it for the sake of partying is nonsense.

       • Give yourself time to integrate the experience afterwards.  You’ve just seen something that few other humans ever have.  This is going to freak you out and shatter your notions of what's real and possible in life.  You're not going to know what this means for your relationships, career or anything else.  You need time to work through all that, not hide it under a rug.

That's where the real growth comes from.  That’s why psychedelics aren’t a magic pill or a way to avoid doing the uncomfortable emotional work.  It’s actually the opposite.

       • 5-MeO also augments future psychedelic experiences.  After doing 5-MeO every psychedelic experience becomes a little bit like 5-MeO.  Trips will be much more powerful, deep and epic.  Even at low doses and even if it’s been a while since your last 5-MeO trip.

       • 5-MeO seems to have no tolerance, which means you can take it often.  That’s not recommended, however.  You could become psychologically dependent on it.  5-MeO might not be physically addictive, but anything can be psychologically addictive. (Like scrolling the Actualized.org forum :P)

       • You should wait at least a week between trips.  Twice a month is better so you can reflect and integrate between trips.  This is such a powerful substance that there’s no way you can integrate all this in just one or two days.  You need to give yourself time to come back down, to really think about it and integrate it fully.

A Catalyst, Not a Cure-All

-Yes, 5-MeO can be used for enlightenment!  If used in conjunction with meditation, self-inquiry and personal development, over a long period of time (like a year), eventually all those peak, high consciousness experiences will crack open the ego. They will deliver a mortal wound that bleeds the ego dry.

Psychedelics are a catalyst, not a magic pill, because the work is still emotionally taxing.  So continue your meditation habits, continue self-inquiry and all other personal development habits.

-One dose will not permanently enlighten you.  It'll give you a genuine experience of your absolute nature as God, as Everything and Nothing, but it's not going to make you permanently enlightened.  It puts you in a temporary state of high consciousness, but not a permanent stage of high consciousness.

5-MeO puts you in a state of consciousness that’s so high, so infinite, it’s unsustainable in everyday human life. Although having that super high reference point for Absolute Infinity will supercharge the rest of your spiritual practice.

-It’s a catalyst that makes you face your inner demons.  The more inner demons you have the more stuff will come up.  So be prepared to work through all of that.

However, you’ll also get to work through that stuff faster instead of spreading it out over ten or twenty years.  It’s going to be condensed into one year, like joining a zen monastery.  So it’ll be faster and tougher, but the fruits will come faster too.  You’ll also have more time to enjoy them in the long run.  You will be shocked and pleasantly surprised when you break through and see what exists beyond the ego.

5-MeO & Society

-Because 5-MeO makes the Godhead tangible and empirical, it might be the most important technology that we have right now.

-The traditional enlightenment path is very very gruelling. Most people probably couldn’t handle it, but they can do a psychedelic and experience the deepest wisdom that our religious and spiritual traditions are founded upon.  They can breakdown their ego and stop the cycle of self-destruction, both individually and collectively, as part of the community and as part of the species.

There are reports of 5-MeO being used to completely cure addicts who’ve been using heroin for 20 years.  Imagine how powerful an experience would have to be to sober up a homeless addict who’s been using heroin everyday for 20 years.  Someone who’s tried rehab, therapy and methadone but keeps relapsing.  He does a 5-MeO treatment, sees God and his whole life gets flipped upside down.  This doesn’t happen to every addict, but the fact that it’s a common enough occurrence shows how much therapeutic potential 5-MeO has.

eg: Dr. Octavio Rettig and medical 5-MeO for meth addicts in Mexico

-If there's anything that will make enlightenment mainstream it's 5-MeO.  For that reason, it could be the salvation of the human race.  Humanity’s at a tipping point, because collectively our ego is so vast and our ignorance so deep.  Our wisdom is so shallow and our consciousness so low.  As a species, over the next 200 years, we have a real chance of devastating Earth’s ecosystem and annihilating ourselves.  The future of humanity could literally depend on marshalling the consciousness raising potential of psychedelics like 5-MeO.

It’s important to look at how fear works and how it influences your decisions.  Your fears manifest in a multitude of ways that you aren’t even aware of.  You’ll never reach your full potential unless you conquer your fears.

These simple questions have the power to clarify and uproot the most crippling of fears.  If you’re facing a major decision, or having doubts about a big decision that you’ve already made, sit down and ask yourself:

  1. What’s the worst that will happen?
  2. Why is that bad?
  3. What will I do when the worst happens?

Viva Las Vegas

In 2012, Leo was mulling over whether to relocate from Dallas to Las Vegas.  He wanted to fully immerse himself in learning how to pickup women and Vegas had the nightlife to help him do that.  It was one of the toughest decisions he’d ever faced.

Deep-down he was excited at the prospect of moving, but he was also plagued with fear and doubt.  In his mind, he had painted a picture of things going amazing well or horribly bad.

There were many challenges he’d have to face: leaving behind friends and family, trying to make his business work in a new city, finding a balance between pick-up and career, the hassle and costs of moving, and making a life change so radical it could backfire.

Even after all the logical, pros vs cons analysis, he was still left with palpable fear that he might be making a big mistake.  So Leo discussed this with a life coach who kept asking, “What’s the worst that can happen?  Why is that bad?”  It went something like this:

Coach: “What’s the worst that can happen if you move to Vegas?”

Leo: “I hate it so much that I’m miserable, like in Boston five years ago.”

Coach: “And why is that bad?”

Leo: “I hated living in Boston.”

Coach: “Why bro?  Ya gaht something against great coffee, lobster rolls that are wicked pissa, hot angels who seduce people into learning history, and a team that keeps winning the Supabowl, bro?”

          Leo: “Excuse me?”

Coach: “Nevermind…why was living in Boston bad?”

Leo: “I didn’t have any friends or family…I felt lonely, uncomfortable and insecure.  But, I want to move out of Dallas.”

Coach: “And what’s bad about moving out of Dallas?”

Leo: “I’m tired of moving.  I’m frustrated because I’m wasting time.  What if I spend a lot of money and it doesn’t work out and then I have to move back?”

Coach: “And what’s bad about wasting time and money?”

Leo: “I should be putting that time and money towards advancing my career.  I don’t want to take a step backwards.”

Coach: “What’s bad about taking a step backwards?”

Leo: “If I keep delaying I’m not going to be successful.”

Coach: “And why is that bad?”

Leo: “I want to be proud of my life and have it mean something important.”

Coach: “So it sounds like accomplishing something important with your life will make you feel proud and significant.  You’re afraid you might lose that opportunity if you move to Vegas. So, you’re wagering your life’s significance on this move. No wonder you’re second-guessing yourself.

Leo: “Well, yeah… come to think of it, moving to Vegas and seeing what happens IS the opportunity.  It’s the bold choice that will grow me instead of staying in my comfort zone.”

Coach: “So what’s the worst that will happen if you move to Vegas?”

Leo: “Well…I might hate it and lose interest in pick-up and find that I can’t restart my business.”

Coach: “Okay. Let’s say that happened. What would you do then?”

Leo: “I could always move back to Dallas. I’d have to stay in Vegas for at least a year because of the apartment lease term.

“I’d pay about $4,000 to move to Vegas, and another $2,000 to move back to Dallas if it doesn’t work out. So worst-case scenario, I’m out $6,000 and back to where I am now.

“I’m basically paying $6,000 to live in Las Vegas for a year.  That actually doesn’t sound so bad. Even if I realize that I don’t want to live in Vegas, it’ll be worth it to have lived there for a year. $6,000 for that kind of life experience sounds like a bargain!”

Coach“Sounds like you don’t have as much to lose as you thought.”

Leo: “Guess not. And the upside is enormous.”

Once you dig into the issue, identify the worst-case scenario, and stare your fear in the face, it’ll give you clarity and breathing room.  Leo’s true fear wasn’t about moving to Vegas. It was about being insignificant and how wasting time and money would set him back.  Remember, your mind is really good at catastrophizing — making you feel fear even when the risks are minimal.

When you truly see what your fear is about, you will also see the solution.  Upon closer inspection, Leo realized he wasn’t wasting time and money at all.  He was making a calculated investment into his personal growth and embarking on an exciting life adventure.  As soon as he made this re-frame he was at peace.

How to Discover Your True Fears and Motivation

So sit down and really ask yourself:

  1. What’s the worst that will happen?
  2. Why is that bad?
  3. What will I do when the worst happens?

-Go deep on this.  Keep digging until you hit rock-bottom and have an “Ah-ha!” moment, especially with #2.  You’ll learn a lot about yourself.  If you go deep enough you will discover your deepest underlying fears and your deepest source of motivation.

In the Vegas example, Leo discovered that his deepest fear was wasting his life, and his deepest motivation was living a meaningful, accomplished life — two sides of the same coin.

-It’s very powerful to identifying your root fears, because they explain many of your behavioural patterns. A root fear is a generic, abstract, commonly-held fear that pervades your entire life.  Fears like:

  • Fear that you are unlovable
  • Fear that you are not good enough or smart enough
  • Fear of death
  • Fear of going broke
  • Fear of letting your family down
  • Fear of rejection
  • Fear of failure
  • Fear of losing control
  • Fear of reverting to your old self
  • Fear of embarrassment
  • Fear of being wrong
  • Fear of being insignificant

Ignoring Fear vs Releasing Fear

“We gain strength, and courage, and confidence

by each experience in which we really stop to look fear in the face…

we must do that which we think we cannot.”

—Eleanor Roosevelt

The best way to neutralize a crippling fear is to simply take action.  The second best way is to methodically examine it (not to be mistaken with ruminating on it).

Examination forces you to face your fears and see that they are largely figments of your imagination. Sometimes just seeing the fear for what it is — even if it’s very real — will give you peace. You’ll simply release the fear after you see it in its entirety.

When you face your fear, one of several things will happen:

  1. You will resist and bury your head in the sand. (fail)
  2. You’ll see that you’ve exaggerated the fear in your mind.
  3. You’ll see that the worst-case scenario is wildly improbable. And even then, you have options.
  4. You’ll see that the fear is actually about something else, something deeper.
  5. You’ll see that the fear, even if warranted, is dis-empowering and poisoning your life.

Choice 2, 3, 4, and 5 all lead to a partial or sometimes total release of the fear, giving you a sense of ease and allowing you to act from a position of clarity.  Choice 1 will prolong your suffering and could lead to all sorts of real-world and psychological problems.

All neurotic behavior comes from trying to sweep fear under the rug and running away or avoiding your problems. Parts of you are incredibility adept at shirking responsibility. It’s your job to stay vigilant.

Not Digging Deep Enough

You want to go through at least five iterations on the “And, why is that bad?” question.  The most common mistake you can make when exploring your fears is not digging deep enough.

Make sure you’re specific about what upsets you the most about the situation. Don’t give generic answers like, “It will suck.”  How will it suck?  Why will it suck?  “It will suck because I’ll feel bad.” Not specific enough!  What are you actually going to feel?  Name emotions (sad, mad, glad, scared, ashamed, disgusted, lustful, etc).

Always be sure to ask, “What’s bad about feeling that?”  Make sure you dig deep.

Sometimes this is easier said than done. It’s especially tough in serious situations like a death in the family, a cancer diagnosis, losing your life savings in the stock market, etc. Tough situations definitely make it harder to exert conscious control, but the same fear-busting strategy applies — you’ll just need to summon more courage to use it.

“The whole secret of existence is to have no fear.

Never fear what will become of you, depend on no one.

Only the moment you reject all help are you freed.”

—Buddha

-The point isn’t to dismiss all your fears as nonsense.  Everyone knows that worst-case scenarios sometimes come true. You can lose your kid; you can lose a parent; you can end up broke; your spouse can get cancer; you can be abandoned by your partner, or you can die tomorrow.  This is going to sound harsh, but that’s life!

(For more advice on dealing with bleak topics, checkout Leo’s episode on Stoicism & Happiness.)

-You don’t choose these things. You can only control how you think about them. Comfort yourself only as much as you need to, then choose to think in an empowering way.  If you make yourself a victim and choose to think in a dis-empowering way, you will get results you don’t want to have.

  • eg:  Are you worried about losing your kid to the point where you might be over-protective?  Are you perhaps doing more harm than good?
    •     The key issue isn’t about protecting your kid. It’s about why YOU feel the need to be so protective.  Are you really doing it for your kid’s benefit or for yours? Be honest!  Parents sometimes overprotect their kid to calm their own anxiety, even when it’s destructive to the child.
    •     What if you just accepted the fact that your kid could die?  It’s the truth isn’t it?  You will die.  Your kids will die.  Everything you cherish will eventually be incinerated when the sun expands to vaporize the Earth a few billion years from now.

“My heart is afraid it will have to suffer.

Tell your heart that the fear of suffering

is worse than the suffering itself."

—Paulo Coelho

-The worst case scenario is always death or massive pain.  Death isn’t so bad.  The sooner you can let go of this fear, the sooner you can move on to living a content life.  Massive pain is harder to let go of.  But still, for most situations, the fear of massive pain is greatly over-exaggerated.

-Consider this: your life is never made worse by facing reality. But you have the potential to really screw your life up badly if you insist on sticking your head in the sand.  Perhaps it’s time to dig in and look at your fears square in the face.

A Caution on Identifying Fears

In the hands of an emotionally stable individual, this technique can be very effective. In the hands of an emotionally broken individual, this technique will make things worse.

When you dig into your fears, a common mistake is to come up with unlikely worst-case scenarios.  Watch out for this especially if you tend to be habitually negative or catastrophize a lot.  You need to find realistic worst-case scenarios!  Don’t get trapped in gloom-and-doom thinking.

  • eg: Leo moving to Vegas.
    •     Unlikely worst-case scenario: “I die in a horrible car wreck while driving to Vegas.  I get skin cancer from the scorching Vegas sun.  I get food poisoning at the Bellagio brunch buffet and die.  I watch a Cirque Du Soleil show and one of the acrobats falls on my head…”
    •     Realistic worst-case scenario:  “I can’t restart my business in Vegas.  I can’t balance the demands of pickup with my career.  I lose interest in pick-up.  I get lonely because my friends and family are in Dallas.  I realize I was wrong about Boston, because it’s actually the best place in the galaxy and I could’ve been living there this whole time! ?

We’re interested in an apples-to-apples assessment.  You don’t want to fixate on freak accidents.  Although freak accidents could happen anywhere, you want to focus on plausible scenarios.  Always remember to ask, “How likely is this to really happen?”  This will keep the worst of the worst-case scenarios at bay.

It’s also helpful to do this exercise with a coach. A good coach will prevent you from spiralling down into unrealistic negative thinking.

Examination vs. Negativity

Examining your fears is not the same thing as pessimistic thinking.  Examination empowers, while negativity dis-empowers.

Examination is an inner game tool to be used consciously, for limited periods of time, to dissolve bothersome situations, which leaves you feeling strong.

Negative, pessimistic thinking is a neurotic tendency — an obsessive, unconscious compulsion.  It can drag out for hours and exaggerate problems, which leaves you feeling helpless.

(These notes came from Lucas Salvatore in the Youtube comments section.)

*Don’t underestimate the importance of inner game*

       Reasons you’re not getting laid:

1. You are not being social enough (meet at least 100 new girls/month)

2. You’re not going out

3. You’re not approaching

4. You’re communication in a very business matter - not in a flirty manner

5. You don’t understand what attracts women

6. You have a deep victim complex, limiting belief and you have deep insecurity about yourself, you doubt yourself about your ability to get laid

7. You are not willing to work hard to grow yourself, into the kind of man that women would find attractive

8. You don’t believe that you deserve to be with an attractive woman

9. You’re too scared to start taking serious action

       How attraction really works:

1. Study evolutionary psychology

2. Male/female dynamics and differences

3. The women needs something from you, much deeper than your physical features

  • She needs masculinity, strength, leadership
  • “You are not not getting laid for being short, but you are not getting laid because you are insecure about being short"

What women are attracted to (ALL of them):

1. Masculine energy

2. Strength

3. Confidence

4. Charisma

5. Charm

6. humor

7. Cocky/funny

8. Wit

9. Fun/adventure/romance

10. Highly social guys

11. Playfullness

12. Positivity

13. Emotional stimulation - to experience a wide array of emotions

14. Strong personality

15. Passion

16. A guy who is able to express himself in an un-pre-mediated way, spontaneously and exhibits a strong personality authentically (regardless of what that personality is) - does not hold back on his authentic personality

17. Leadership and decisiveness

18. Authenticity/vulnerability and deep intimacy - developing that bond, telling your life stories

19. Balls / edginess and boldness

20. High value

21. Status

22. Reputation

23. Celebrity

24. Social approval (a lot of people who like you around you)

25. Eye contact

26. Men who are detached

27. Men who finds their life purpose more important than the girl

28. Well groomed / smell nice / sharply dressed / clean / fit

       What repels women:

1. Neediness / desperation and attachment to her (putting her on a pedestal)

2. Being too nice

3. Fear / insecurity / meekness / shyness / lack of balls

4. Explicitly sexually vulgar and gives sexual compliments

5. Being desired only for sex / if you get her to feel slutty

6. Trying to impress women / a fake front

7. Fakeness / being too gamy / trying too hard

8. Bragging about yourself - in fact, you should do the opposite, self deprecation

9.  Boring logical talk / serious guys - they want to relate to you in an emotional way, not logical

10. Forcing her to lead

11. Ungroomed / smell bad / sloppy style

12. Creepiness

       Ultimate solution for getting laid:

1. Envision yourself attracting cute girls

2. Study the principles of attraction

3. Go out and socialise every week

4.  Work on your victim complex and all of your limiting beliefs - question them until they are all destroyed and go out and talk to girls!

5. Be tenacious and DO NOT quit. Keep going until you get the results that you want

       Commitment you must make:

1. I commit to talk to 30 girls a week

2. I commit to go outside of my house at least 3 times a week to a bar/club and you socialise

3. I commit to finding my dream girl through this process

Self-image is one of the most powerful, important, practical tools you can use to transform your life to ridiculous levels.  There’s lots you can say about the power of self-image.  This episode’s just an intro.

Take A Look At Yourself

A lot of these ideas about self-image come from Maxwell Maltz’s classic self-help book Psycho-Cybernetics.  It’s a highly recommended book on Leo’s booklist.

-Maxwell Maltz was a plastic surgeon in the 1950s.  He started studying psychology and the concept of self-image, because as a plastic surgeon he noticed some interesting things.

Some of his patients had crippling emotional problems because of their appearance.  Some had deformities, some thought their nose was too big or that their face was too wrinkly or that they were just plain ugly and unacceptable.  Maltz would fix up their appearance, make them beautiful, and patients would react in one of two ways:

Some patients would feel radically more confident and go out and change the rest of their life.  They’d feel great and be full of self-esteem.

Other patients would still feel ugly, even though they were now beautiful.  In fact, some patients were so upset with Maltz that they accused him of not having made any changes to their face at all.  They would call him a charlatan or a quack.

Of course, he had made changes, but the patients had such a strong self-image of being ugly that their self-image still remained even after becoming beautiful.

It shows how your self-image is what determines how you feel about yourself and your life, no matter how positively other people assess your looks.  This is a really powerful concept.

(Some pretty girls (not all) who get put in the "hot, beautiful" or "8-10" category see themselves as average, because they're subconsciously comparing themselves to other "hot" girls.  So they sometimes have a self-image of being "average" because they're "average" among other beautiful girls.  It'd be more accurate for them to compare themselves to the general population and feel grateful to be pretty at all.

It's the same for some Harvard grads.  A fair number of them feel like "underachievers" or even "failures" because they're comparing themselves to other Harvard grads, not to average joes who don't have degrees from Harvard.)

But What Is Self-Image?

Self-image is a subconscious framework for how you see yourself and your life.  It’s what you believe and what you think is true about reality.  Every belief you have is part of your self-image.  Especially beliefs about what you think is possible.

Do you think it’s possible for you to earn a million dollars a year? Do you really believe that? If you do, then that’s part of your self-image.  If you don’t, if that sounds like some ridiculous fairy tale, then being a millionaire is not part of your self-image.

Holding a limiting belief about your potential makes that pathway of reality blocked off to you.  Your mind is creating a map or mental model of reality and how the world works.  This model is mostly subconscious.

You’re not aware of all the assumptions you make about how your world works.  Or how society works, how life works, how you work and who you are.  You’ve been programmed by your parents, culture, school, your job, your friends and basically every single person you’ve ever come into contact with.

Circumstances have also programmed you.  Putting your hand on a hot stove programs you to flinch and never do that again.  Watching Captain America: Civil War programs you to like good guys with lovely shoulders who have blue eyes with specks of green around the irises (it’s a feature, not a flaw Baron Zemo—duh ?) Those lessons from your environment get seared into your subconscious.  It becomes part of your self-image and model of reality.  You’re more careful around a hot stove because that burned your hands.  You also never want Jared Leto to play the Joker again because that burned your soul ?.

Unravel The Thread

Your self-image is like a large ball of yarn.  There are hundreds of thought strands, all tangled and bunched up together.  All the experiences you’ve ever had, all the lessons, beliefs and assumptions you’ve amassed are wound up into that tight ball of yarn.

It’s a pretty big tangled mess.  It’s all sitting below the surface, subconsciously, so you don’t even see it.  You might see a thread here or there, but basically, 95% of your behaviors and actions are subconscious.  What’s powerful and important about that is your subconscious determines your results.

             “But Leo, isn’t having a self-image egotistical?”

Well, in order to drop the ego you first have to develop a healthy ego.  You can’t just drop the ego when your ego is weak and underdeveloped.  It's important to integrate the healthy aspects of the lower stages of development before you can move on to higher stages.

(Dr.K from Healthy Gamer has a good segment about leveraging the power of self-image, ego and identity here (9 mins):

Maintaining Balance

Wanna know why you’re stuck in life?  Your body and mind are like a thermostat that’s been programmed to stay at a specific temperature, determined by your subconscious.  It tends to keep you in a state of homeostasis and equilibrium.  (Ep: Understanding Ego Backlash)  So, you get stuck at a specific salary, or weight, or happiness set point, or quality of relationship and so forth.

To create big changes, you need to unravel the ball of yarn that is your self-image and subconscious.

Self-image is so powerful because you’re going to align your behaviour and actions with what you really believe is true.  So, what so you really believe is true?  About your potential, your personality, what you deserve, how smart you think you are, how the world works, etc.

What’s even crazier is if you believe something is true despite it being proven false, you’ll still behave as though the lies are all true.  That’s why the beautiful patients still thought they were ugly after they became beautiful.  Your behavior is shaped by what you believe is true, not by what’s actually true.  If you believe a lie is true, it will feel true even if it’s ?.

There are many things in your self-image that are complete horse shit and illusions, total fabrications, and they’re keeping you stuck in life.

If you want to create massive change in your career, your confidence, your relationships, your fitness or anything else, then you have to start digging into your self-image and work on your subconscious.

Changes That Last

When you start changing your self-image (which is absolutely possible), you start to create lasting changes that are sustainable.  They’re not subject to the yo-yo effect.

That’s how you can create huge weight loss or massive success with the opposite sex, or with your finances and your business.  That’s how you create transformation in your psychology and epistemology and your emotions.  It’s how you become optimistic instead of pessimistic.  It’s how you tackle anxiety, depression, alcoholism and more.  All of those changes happen by working on your self-image.

Whether you’re conscious of it or not, you’re sculpting your self-image.  It’s why understanding epistemology is so transformational.  You get to find out how you’ve been deceiving yourself, which helps you unravel your self-image and subconscious.

It’s also why meditation, psychedelics and awakenings can be so powerful.  They give you a clear, undeniable experience of who you really are beyond your limiting beliefs and cultural programming, as one with the Godhead.

Self-Image Examples

Here’s how self-image works on a practical level.  There are thoughts about yourself and thoughts about reality.  These beliefs create a self-fulfilling prophecy.

       Thoughts about Yourself

You don’t see things as they are; you see things as you are.  Really think about the following limiting beliefs.  What results would they manifest in your life?

-If you think,“my thoughts are what’s real. It’s just how reality is.”  You’ll be way less likely to question your limiting beliefs.

-How about “I’m a failure”?  Just imagine how that thought would play out in your life, believing you’re destined to not win?  That thought will propagate itself like a virus and ruin your life.

If you think,“I failed in the past, so I’m always going to fail,” you’re less likely to look for evidence that shows you can win and learn.  Just because you failed once, or even several times, that doesn’t mean you can’t learn from failure and change your future.

If you’ve had several failures, that’s probably because you haven’t unravelled your self-image and subconscious, but you can do that now and create massive change.

-Watch out for “it’s genetic” and “I’m naturally like that.” Those beliefs will kill your potential.  “I’m shy because my parents were shy and I have shy genes” makes you feel hopeless to changing.  If you feel hopeless, what chance do you have of creating a fun, thriving social life?  Can you see how important it is to root out a belief like that?

-Also watch out for “This advice about self-image isn’t true.”  If you believe that, you’ll come up with excuses.  You won’t do the work of uprooting your subconscious, cognitive distortions.

-There are shocking things about yourself that you believe right now, with a 100% faith and certainty, which are completely bogus and are completely destroying the quality of your life and your potential to grow.

-Watch the episodes on how to “Stop Being a Victim” to understand the power of your self-image and subconscious.

       Thoughts about Reality

What if you believed that: “Money is hard to make.”  There are so many negative self-image problems with money.  Do you think that belief about the “reality of money” will have an effect on your salary and how much is in your bank account?

What about: “Life is unfair” or “Life is hard and difficult.”  That’s a fairly ugly limiting belief.  How would that perspective affect how you interact with the world?

What about: “Other people think I’m ugly”?  How would that play out in your life?  How eager would you be to socialize and approach people you find attractive?

These are just some common examples out of thousands.  Which limiting beliefs about reality and yourself are you carrying around?

Break The Manacles

Everyone has limiting beliefs as part of their self-image.  Unquestioned, faulty assumptions will perpetuate a low-quality of life.  The spooky thing is you don’t even know that they’re there until you unravel them!  A lot of things in your self-image are completely illogical, stupid and foolish, until you articulate them and look at them objectively.

Take a thought like, “I’m unworthy of love.”  Logically you’ll say “everyone deserves love,” but you don’t really feel that way deep down.  A thought like that will create a whole host of relationship problems.

You’ll drive your partner bonkers trying to get them to give you compliments.  You’ll feel rejected, angry and bitter if they don’t lavish you with enough love.  You’ll create a lot of stress and drama, because you’re insecure.  That’ll drive the other person away and make the relationship fall apart.  Then the self-fulfilling prophecy gets fulfilled, which reinforces the initial belief “I’m unworthy of love.”

However, you can avoid all that by uprooting your belief of unworthiness, thus creating a totally different chain of cause and effect.  One where, instead of draining your partner because you feel unworthy, you instead share, celebrate and magnify love with them, making them happy to be with you.

Lift With Your Legs

The biggest takeaway is to understand how important your self-image is and how it determines your entire life.  It’s real and not some silly self-help buzzword.

You need to focus on figuring out your self-image.  This is where change happens.  It’s like the saying, “if you’re going to lift a heavy object, lift it with your legs and not your back.”

If you lift from your legs you’ll have the strength to carry the heavy load.  If you lift with your back, you’re just going to hurt your back and maybe drop the box on your toes.  Creating an inspiring, flourishing self-image is like lifting with your legs.

Using willpower is like lifting from your back.  It’s probably the method you’ve been doing up until now.  Maybe you say to yourself, “OK, enough is enough.  I’m going on a diet” or “I’m starting a business” or “I’m going to read a full summary instead of just skim it :P.”   Then you try to start that new business or that new diet and you quickly fall off, because your willpower breaks.

It’s because you’re not using your strongest muscles.  Willpower is great, but it’s more useful in short bursts, like starting a habit.  For long lasting, transformational change, you need the big muscles of self-image to follow through and maintain a habit.  That’s the key to massive change.  Let your subconscious and self-image do the heavy lifting.

Your subconscious is the power center of your results.   It’s where 95% of your action stems from.  This involves deep introspection work.

Coaching is really good for getting you these insights too.. It can bring up stuff from your subconscious, and get you to realize things you haven’t realized before.

Yes, you can change your subconscious.  Maxwell Maltz says it takes 21 days to create a lasting change to your self-image.  That’s how long it takes for new habits to permeate into your subconscious.  It’s actually not that difficult, but it takes persistence.

Blueberry-Shake-II.png

-Try replacing your current breakfast with a healthy smoothie like this and notice how much better you feel!  Observe the performance benefits that you get after a week.  Ask yourself if that’s worth it to you.  If you’re into self-actualization, you may find that the smoothie is better for you than a standard American breakfast.

-This is what you should be eating if you’re doing consciousness work, meditation, contemplation, self-inquiry and more.  You need to clean up your diet to clean up your mind.  So feed your brain and body nutrients!

-You need a high quality blender, like a 1000 watt Ninja blender or a Vitamix.  Get a high quality blender because a cheap one won’t last very long and won’t break down your food properly.

-A healthy shake is a great way to start your morning.  A raw, fresh, alive drink will fuel you much better than a bunch of sugar and starch, like a traditional heavy breakfast of bagels and cereal.

-It takes 5 mins to make.  It’s convenient.  You can drink it on the go.  It’ll keep you satiated for a couple hours.

-It’s worth spending more money for organic ingredients.

-The matcha and cocoa add antioxidants.  The vanilla and banana add flavor.  The banana also adds a creamy texture.

-The proportions for all ingredients don’t have to be exact.

       Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup Organic Frozen Blueberries
  • 3/4 cup Almond Milk (sugar-free)
  • 1 Banana
  • 3/4 tsp Matcha Green Tea
  • 3/4 tsp Beet Juice Powder
  • 1 pinch Freshly Ground Vanilla Bean
  • 1/2 tsp Raw Cocoa Powder
  • 2 handfuls of Spinach (pre-washed)

Combine all ingredients together using a blender.

       Tips For a Healthy Diet

-You need good, healthy recipes that you can use every single day, so that you’re automating your healthy diet.  This makes good nutrition effortless.

              • Leo’s Vegetable Soup is one such recipe.

-The tradeoff with eating healthy versus not eating healthy is that you’re not going to get as much variety in what you eat.  Healthy foods may seem “boring,” but they will raise the quality of your life, which is the opposite of boring.

-Sticking to a healthy diet is easier if you identify your highest priorities.  If you value self-actualization, growth and maintaining a high level of consciousness throughout the day you’ll need energy.  Same if you enjoy getting the results you want in life, whether it’s achievements at work or in meditation or in your spiritual practice.  Abs are made in the kitchen.

-If you want to live a high consciousness lifestyle, it’s very difficult to do that on the Standard American Diet (a S.A.D diet).

-Make it a point to find healthy, practical recipes that you can add to your diet to make meal-prep very routine, automatic and effortless.  They should be fast to make, with ingredients you can buy quickly.  Ideally with ingredients you can stock up on, so you don’t have to go to the store everyday.  You can even make large batches of it and store it in the freezer and keep it for a long time.

-Having a vision and life purpose will motivate you to eat healthy and have the necessary energy to fuel whatever you’re trying to accomplish.  If you don’t have a vision, you’ll have no reason to eat healthy and you’ll revert back to junk.

-The performance results you get outweigh the short-term cost of not having flavourful junk for breakfast.  Making nutrition easy will free up your time and mental energy to put towards self-actualization work!

Why Valuable Things Require Development Over Time:

The ultimate key to success in life:

There is a category of class of things which can be achieved in your life only through a slow steady, consistent investment into that thing over a period of years on a daily basis which ultimately accretes( grow by accumulation) to some amazing result that you cannot get any other way

- Cannot purchase it

- Build it overnight

- There's No magic pill

The most valuable things in life are those things that are built in this fashion ( this is how you make yourself successful, deeply satisfied and happy in life)

- Key mistake what most fools do is impatience: wants something very valuable very cheaply and quickly, doesn't work for it, can be convinced that something very valuable in life can be gotten without this process of patient steady investment( Fools want to get rich quickly, the wise want to get rich slowly)

- Fools build their castle on foundation of sand, he is more interested in the castle than the foundation, they don't dig a deep foundation and the castle collapses. They constantly working because their foundation is constantly sinking. It would be more easy to bite the bullet and work hard slowly, patiently for a decade and build serious wealth

- Resist the temptation to outsource this to somebody else, this is the heart of self-actualization and personal development

Examples:

Education:

- If you care about education, knowledge, understanding, intelligence and being smart this is not something you can purchase, there's no amount of money that will make you well educated. Nor can you get educated in a weekend or a single year.

- To become well educated that means you're going to invest in your education time and energy every single day for a period of decades

- There's no single book, class, university program that will make you well educated

- Solid education requires thousands of hours of investment

- How: read every single day, listen to podcasts, videos, contemplate, take notes, read more, go to classes for decades and at some point you will become more educated

- Nobody's going to push you to become well educated

- You're tempted to look for a shortcut

After certain number of decades you can coast off of that success for the rest of your life, pays dividends forever

There are certain things in life that have a natural developmental process and takes a certain amount of time

Business/ Building a high quality brand:

- Is a decade long process or more of gradual investment into your brand, patiently building a reputation in the market place, honing your brand to make sure it's fitting in a certain narrow niche within your marketplace and serving that niche very well

- Takes decades to understand what it is exactly your selling and whom you're selling to, what is part of your brand, what's not part of your brand

- This leads to be very valuable in the end and bask in that for the rest of your life( it's so rewarding aspect of existence)

- It takes a real commitment, vision and patient approach to what you're doing and consistency on a daily basis building inch by inch by inch chipping away at it

- We have this attitude of wanting some big result quickly: what can I do to break wage slavery tomorrow?

You want it quickly and what this reveals about your mind is that you don't really appreciate the value of the ultimate goal. If you would appreciate the value of it you would be happy to work for 10 years to do it to achieve it

- Depending on how much you value it and how much it's worth to you, that determines how hard you're going to work towards it, how patient you're going to be with it

You need to be good at spotting these non-linear payoffs that you can get with your investments

Actualized:

Every early released episode was not delivering on the highest vision

Developed one of the most robust and interconnected maps of reality that any human has ever developed

When I do something I can't really motivate myself to do it unless I think that is really awesome

You don't look to external validation to tell you that what you're doing is right, you must look within, your intuition, higher self will tell you

Tell yourself every single day that you're doing something important and not to quit and it's going to be worthwhile. You're going to have days you want to quit and follow your friends to do all their stupid stuff their doing. Somebody is going to criticize you or naysay you and then you're going to take that criticism and let it get to you and want to quit. You must push pass that and stick to your vision

Patient investment in that what you intuit is going to be deeply valuable based upon your own values not somebody else

Emotional mastery:

- Requires deep introspection, mindfulness, dealing with shadow stuff, dealing and facing fear, anger, jealousy ( confronting them in an honest way), journal about them, reading about how emotions work, sedona method( letting go), label your emotions

- Research different coping mechanism, strategies on how to jiujitsu with these different kind of emotions.

- Learn some relaxations techniques

- When you're sad or depressed learning some coping strategies for that. What do you do when you're stuck in a depression or in a lazy unmotivated, apathetic, nihilistic state, want to kill yourself. What do you do?

- Or with being happy. Research how to make yourself happy and how to maybe enjoy. How to be satisfied: building up that muscle

- When you develop your emotional mastery you have the rest of your life to enjoy it: not being filled with anxiety, panic attacks, fear, anger, jealousy, bitterness, nihilism

- How much is emotional mastery worth to you? How hard are you willing to work for it?

Sense of humor:

- Is not how good you are in the absolute sense is always relative of where you we're in the past

- You can't become funny overnight, it requires retraining how your entire brain looks at reality

- What is it worth to you to become more funny?

- You can use a good sense of humor to charm people, get laid, land a job, develop great social circle, open doors that will otherwise be closed, it's just more fun

- It's not about memorizing a bunch of jokes, it's about looking at the world in a playful manner

Spiritual work:

- These takes decades of patient consistent daily practice and self-investment rather than some sort of weekend course

- Are you willing to sit and meditate for 1-2 hours to develop some of these fruits?

- The valuable stuff is the stuff that people haven't invented a mechanical solution for it, there's no technology or gadget that will do this thing for you, it must be done manually

You have to be wise enough to see that what you really want in your life is always going to be walled of from you by your own willingness to the labor to get it. You want to be smart about it, don't invest into a dead end pursuit thinking that it's going to pay off, you got to invest in the right things

Imagine an eyedropper and you drop a little drop into a giant bathtub, doing it every single day: only one drop. Everybody is going to be discouraged by this process and quit but all I have to do is just keep doing drop by drop by drop every single day and in 10 years I'm going to be the single person with bathtub filled

Human mind is a very stubborn beast, it takes years and decades to rewire your mind, how it works, belief structure etc. can't change these things overnight. A mistake more fools make is that they take the approach of spasmatic obsessive strategy that is going to backfire

Gearing the business towards the wise is not very smart it's, if you want to make a lot of money gear your business towards the biggest fools

10 years in your life will pass so quickly

Life is very much about investing in yourself as early as possible and doing it as much as humanly possible every single day

On a piece of paper write down 5 things you want to investing over the next 5-10 years of your life and put it on your mirror to look at it every single day. This it's what's going to make or break your life. For the most part everything that's happening in your life is just distraction

Skills:

- Professionally

- Interpersonal

- Relationship

To build skills you need train on a daily basis. When you start doing that then your life will become meaningful and interesting.

Most people are living life like a shallow first person shooter where every day they just do a little bit of thing here and there, one off thing, doesn't add up and build towards something meaningful after a long period of time. Try to design your life in such a way that every activity you're doing is going to synergize and build towards some larger goal and in this way your life will become very rich and meaningful

You want to align the skills you're building with your strengths not your weaknesses

There are tradeoffs: you have finite time, resources, energy, money. It's all about how strategically you're going to allocate these things

You want to customize what's happening in your life to what you are
