Hey , I'm facing this problem of oversleeping and I'm turning 18 this year. I sleep for 16-17 hours in a day :(

My first thought would be a diet issue. What does your daily food intake look like?

Lol

You are not a cat, why do you sleep so much? Instead of posting here, go see a doctor. Get a full round checkup

@Neill Bolton I have stopped eating junk food. Currently, I eat two meal a day consisting of vegetables and chapattis. Also, I think I have a pinched nerve in my neck (not sure of it tho) :/

Could be a sleeping disorder or side effects to medication/ alcohol. I don't really think sleeping for 17 hours a day is considered normal, but I'm not a doctor either :D

If you punch in all your food into an app like www.myfitnesspal.com do you meet most of the daily nutrient requirements?

@Abhijeet Singh are you bored usually? Cuz I myself have experienced this situation and I realised that the biggest reason why this was happening was because for the majority of the time, i did not have much to do. So find  a hobby or try to do something productive. Apart from that i'd suggest you to limit your exposure to digital technology, especially at night, like before the time when you sleep. And have green tea, at least twice a day. It makes your body light and active. Increase your water intake too. Oversleeping is also caused when your body is weak and you lack energy, so have a good meal, with all veggies and required nutrients.

My wife had the issue that she needed to sleep 12+ hours a day or was constantly tired. After extensive research on the internet we began to eleminate possible reasons and after a hormone check she was diagnosed with Hashimoto ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hashimoto%27s_thyroiditis ), which is an auto-immune illnes of the thyroid gland.

Wikipedia: "An average of 1 to 1.5 in 1000 people have this disease."

My wife got hormones she hast tot ake every morning and her condition has greatly improved and she isn't that tired anymore. Every doctor should be able to check for this with a blood test.

Hope this helps and best of luck in resolving this.

@Abhijeet Singh oh I used to and I used to sleep a lot. Still working on it cuz I can't work if I don't have my 8-9 hours of sleep. I want to reduce it to maybe 7 I guess? Just have good amount of nutrients and have water. Plus try to avoid feeling 'lazy' or 'bored'.

The best. Ask your mom to throw a mug full of water everytime you oversleep and I'm not kidding. Genuinely talk to her an ask her to help you out. :D
