How do you know psychedelics are real?

11 posts in this topic

How can we be so sure that what we experience when on a trip is ‘real’ how do we know it’s not just something Artificial (the drug making us think that this is the absolute truth/reality) ?

All responses appreciated (:

How can we be so sure that what we experience sober is real? How do we know it’s not just something artificial (the chemicals in our brain making us think that this is the absolute truth/realty)

@SageModeAustin According to your logic, every thought you ever had in your life is just a chemical in a brain. So by your own thought process, your entire thought process is contingent on an arbitrary soup of chemicals. According to you, all human knowledge is a hallucination.

And you are right. But if you are right, that means the brain, chemicals, the body, the universe, and science are also hallucinations. It even means that you being right is also a hallucination.

So what now? Anything you think or do is a hallucination (according to you).

Beat me to it.

I find people prioritize the sober mindstate by default and have much harsher criticisms to altered ones.

On OP question, generally any insights you get on a psychedelic makes sense sober. You have to be able to integrate it in order for it to be useful.

Such insights don't require drugs though. Think of packing 30 years of meditation into a 6-12 hour trip. Gets results much more quickly than self inquiry and meditation by itself.

when you do it, it feels real and you know its real. Sometimes an LSD experience can feel more real than the sober experience.

Think of its effects as having the ability to raise your 'consciousness' and you just recognize that reality is there its just a different angle. The brain's default system gets re-arranged for several hours.

@Leo Gura yes but how does being on lsd or 5meo make it less hallucinatory? Because the ego is less prominent? Greater ability to see through it?

Btw swim has done lsd plenty of times, mushrooms once

It doesn't. It just makes you aware that you are inside a hallucination whereas previously you weren't.

It makes you aware of the full ramifications of your own logic, because right now you still aren't.
