Look at how people behaved back in the time, almost everyone was naturally connected, go and try to do it now, people are all stuck on their phones and their do-to lists, barely anyone enjoys & love eachother. Everyone is rushing, no one is Being. This era will soon be over, this neurocism can't go on forever.

And many woo woo gurus make their own cosmology and spiritual evolution claims out of that. 

I remember seeing videos in the past, where a guru claims things like this,

'' by August 13th, 2015 two third of human population will tap into 5d consciousness, merging with *some aliens* from *fancy dimension*"

Interesting thoughts not sure about the statistical claims. Definitely a bigger disconnect today socially but the internet has also brought a lot of unity in the world between cultures

Definitely.  I think everybody is wrapped up in this.  Ego just is all these distractions — it’s distractions where you lose sense of your true Self.  And we allow ourselves to be lured by the Devil Distractions a.k.a. Thought and Experience.  That’s what Ego is: distractions of Awareness within Thought and Experience so you forget who you really are.  And you think you’re doing a good thing by embracing Thought and Experience, but you just cause yourself a lot of unnecessary suffering at the end of the day by doing so.  We do it to ourselves because we don’t want to accept who we really are.  Egoic distractions allow us to forget the Truth temporarily; but that inauthenticity has a price to be paid in suffering over the short and long term.  When you dance with the Devil don’t complain that you get burned — and you will get burned a lot — that’s what Hell a.k.a. Samsara is.

1980s were a time when you weren't really allowed to be a whiny victim.  This is why movies like The Breakfast Club were so popular; it was actually the first healthy buds of Green that eventually turned into a toxic mold.
