Spiral Dynamics and psychosis

7 posts in this topic

There is a relationship between psychosis and the Spiral Dynamics. Psychosis is considered a symptom of many mental disorders like depression, bipolar disorder, schizoaffective disorder and schizophrenia.

The way the person experiences psychosis seems to depend on her level of consciousness. For example, a person who is on Blue level of consciousness may think she is Jesus or that she's possesed by a demon during her psychosis. A person on the Orange level, may have a different experience due to her belief system and level of consciousness.

A person on stage Green, may have a better understanding of what she's experiencing during psychosis and is less prone to be hospitalized or take medications. But a person on stage Blue and Orange are generally victims of the mainstream psychiatric system and they are generally hospitalized and forced medications.

People who experience psychosis may be moving towards Tier 2 (Yellow) and, instead of psychosis being a thing to avoid, it's very positive and will help with your evolution.

I experienced psychosis and I'm exploring this new approach of what psychosis may mean. Luckily, there are authors like Ken Wilber, Eckhart Tolle, Carl Jung, Stan Grof and many others who have a much more humanistic approach to people who are suffering psychosis or mental disorder.

The best way to avoid psychosis is to take antipsychotics. But taking antipsychotics brings the ego back (ego is shattered during psychosis) and you won't be able to connect deeply with your emotions and your soul.

I'm studying more about it. If you have experienced psychosis and want to share with us, please, feel free. Realize also that you may be part of an important process of human evolution.

@brugluiz Karl jung experienced a psychotic break. Apparently it was the best thing that ever happened to him :)

The orange quacks don't know what they are talking about and ruin millions of people lives each year trying to solve what is just a healing reaction when viewed in the proper context.

Thank you for making this post!

Looking for ward to reading what people have to say about psychosis!!

Hi, @Feel Good! You're welcome and thank you for your comment :)

My therapist told me that Jung really had a psychotic episode. It seems he also used psychedelics.

Most psychiatrists are Orange, but they're still important for the consciousness evolution. Many Blue and Orange people who are passing through psychosis may need medications.

For those who are experiencing psychosis or experienced it, I suggest taking a look at materials of these people (many of them are authors and mental health professionals):

- Robert Whitaker;

- Laura Delano;

- Will Hall;

- Carl Jung;

- Stanislav Grof;

- Peter Breggin;

- Thomas Szasz;

- Peter Gøtzsche;

- Sean Blackwell;

- Eleanor Longden;

- Daniel Mackler;

- Paris Williams;

- Loren Mosher;

- Jaakko Seikkula.

There are many others of course.

Just now, Joseph Maynor said:

If you're worried about psychosis, stay away from Enlightenment.

Maybe psychosis and enlightenment are the same thing.

The fear of psychosis comes from the Orange paradigm that it's a symptom of a chronic disease. I wouldn't advice people to stay away from Enlightenment, but I would say that, when they feel ready, they can explore it.

@brugluiz You should be very careful and clear by what you mean when you say "psychosis".

Spiral Dynamics is not a model for diagnosing or understanding legit mental disorders. So watch out. Spiral Dynamics is based on "normal" or "average" people.

You are God. You are Truth. You are Love. You are Infinity.

Hi, @Leo Gura!

Psychosis is an individual experience. It may also be a set of anomalous experiences. I had psychosis and I was able to read people's mind and felt a lot of love towards other people. When you have this happening to you, it can be very scary depending on your level of consciousness. Imagine a Green person passing through psychosis compared to a Blue person.

Psychosis may also be understood as a healing process that may need loving people to help the person pass through it. The book Rethinking Madness by Paris Williams explains a bit more about this process (it even talks about non-duality).

I still don't have a broad understanding of what a legit mental disorder is, even because many people who are diagnosed with it are passing through a spiritual crisis.

Spiral Dynamics can be used to understand mental disorders. I would take a look at Sean Blackwell's materials. He has some videos on YouTube and has even written a book called Am I Bipolar or Waking Up? (the book is for free, but you can pay for it at Amazon if you want to help Sean Blackwell's purpose).

From the experience I have with mental health (I was already hospitalized twice, visited 5 different psychiatrists, visited 4 different therapists, participated in 3 mental health congresses, parcipated in many group discussions and talked with many mental health professionals [including important figures from Brazil and from the world] and many people diagnosed with mental disorder), I can state that there are many people (if not the most majority) diagnosed with mental disorder suffering an evil social injustice when they are hospitalized and forced medication.

There are some documentaries that may help you understand what a mental disorder may mean:

- CRAZYWISE by Phil Borges;

Take These Broken Wings by Daniel Mackler;

Open Dialogue: An Alternative Finnish Approach by Daniel Mackler;

Sorry for not having an objective answer to you because psychosis is quite subjective.

Anyway, I hope you understand that there are many people in psychiatric hospitals suffering due to the lack of understanding of humanity. Maybe you can help these people with your influence and work. It's up to you though.

I agree with what you said.

I studied psychosis a little more and it has relationship with the Spiral Dynamics created by Graves.

The spiritual crisis has a spectrum defined by fear and love. The more fear the person has, the lower her consciousness. A low-consciousness psychosis may be defined as schizophrenia (it may include Purple, Red and maybe Blue stages). A mid-consciousness psychosis may be defined as a bipolar disorder (it may include Blue and Orange stages). A high-consciousness psychosis may be defined as a spiritual emergency (it may include Green stage).

I created this scheme in order to understand it better (it's just an analysis I'm doing and it's not an absolute truth).

Yellow Stage --> Love

Green Stage --> Some Love (Spiritual Emergency)

Orange Stage --> Some Fear (Bipolar Disorder)

Blue Stage --> Fear (Bipolar Disorder and maybe Schizoaffective Disorder)

Red Stage --> Much Fear (Schizophrenia)

Purple Stage --> Too Much Fear (Severe Schizophrenia)

The fear may also comes from traumas and repressions the person lived.

In his book, Rethinking Madness, Paris Williams shows a similar spectrum to define the spiritual crisis and psychosis, but this spectrum was defined by the ego observance, and not by love and fear.

That's why David Deida says we're expanding love all the time.

Maybe a legit mental illness doesn't even exist, Leo. And Spiral Dynamics help us understand what's happening to people who suffer from mental disorders.

Edit: if you're treating psychosis or mental disorder, it's very important to keep taking your mefications. Don't stop it cold turkey.
