Meditating In Nature

2 posts in this topic

The other day, I was wondering around Tokyo, and came randomly upon the second floor of a complex. On this floor, once you went past the bustling restaurants, there was a rather spacious plateau, with freshly laid grass and not a soul insight. It was 7pm, and I was still in my work clothes. The gates to the lawn were closed but I snuck past them anyway. The sounds of the surrounding city echoed in the air, and the cool breeze carried a certain freshness that you don't normally find on the ground. I decided to meditate, because "hey, why not", and settled down next to a small wooden pillar, sticking out from the grass. After about an hour of meditating, (there were insects coming and going and I was doing my best to let it all be), I touched my face and feel that there are now about 6 or 7 bites present compared with the hour before..

Of course, I don't really care what I look like or if I get a few bites here and there but this got me thinking... nature is a great place to meditate, but where does one draw the line and say "this place is too dangerous to meditate"?

For example, I wouldn't be keen on meditating in the amazon rainforest...
