Seeking the appearance of wisdom

I find myself seeking the appearance of wisdom, i.e. a self-image  that appears wise, rather than seeking wisdom for the sake of finding truth etc. What actions can I take to cultivate an authentic appreciation and desire for wisdom rather than the appearance of it, which I don't think will take me to the deepest levels.
