Groin strain

7 posts in this topic

I've had to completely slow down my Yoga practice because I've strained my adductors (possibly Grade 2, yet to be confirmed) on both sides. I was just getting into some serious training as well, going back to the gym for the first time in around 12 years, starting pilates and whatnot.

So my questions are please...

Should I go to a Chiropractor or Physiotherapist?

Is there any exercises I can still actually do because I don't want to go dormant again?

Is there anything I can do at home to promote healing? (no medication).

Anybody got any personal experience with this type of groin strain?

As always, thank you ?

If it is just a strain, there is no need to see a specialist. A tendon pulled beyond its natural range can heal itself naturally unless there is a tear of muscle which would take much longer.

Make sure you don't put too much stress to it for at least a week. The area will probably be quite painful due to the local inflammation but that's a good thing so let the body do what it has to, it always knows what it is doing. In the meantime, maybe focus on the upper body instead :)

Is there any subcutaneous bleeding (dark discolouration in the pulled area)?

@Michael569  The pain has been present for around 2/3 week's? Would that mean it's just a strain?

I don't see any bruising of any sort.

Thanks so much for your reply.

@Charlotte Ah, I see. Yes a strain most likely potentially damage to either tendon or a muscle, sort of a microtear that would take longer to heal. If you are saying that it's been nearly 3 weeks and the pain hasn't even decreased than it might be worthy for you to get x-ray and examine the local area for any more severe damage.

@Michael569 Yeah I will do just that Michael, I don't want to cause further possible permanent damage. I'll work on my upper body, bit disheartening but never mind ?

Thanks again buddy ?
