Looking for General Thoughts

12 posts in this topic

So I have been on a few different forums, and I personally like this one the best out of all of them :) but there is one thing I have noticed on other forums that isn't here and I just wanted to ask your thoughts.

A lot of forums have a "Rec-Room" Section for people to just kind of "unwind" the mind and get closer through games. We do A LOT of inner searching, research and such, and it can get a little overwhelming sometimes and leave some people feeling more stressed, confused or just mentally exhausted after a discussion, I could be the only one though lol.

But would it be counter productive to just have a lighthearted "game section" where we just play things like "Would you rather..." or Word games to just wind down the mind and help us bond and get to know each other in a fun way?

Just curious. ^_^

A rec-room is simply a way of spending time, it's up to other people whether they get addicted to them and let it distract them too much.

I know that for me personally it probably wouldn't be "counterproductive" cuz I wouldn't spend too much time there. I suppose Leo might look at things from a utilitarian point of view. If he thinks that a games section has overall has more downsides (people getting distracted) than upsides (chilling with people) then he would probably not want to do it and has not done it, probably for that reason.

Hark ye yet again — the little lower layer. All visible objects, man, are but as pasteboard masks. But in each event — in the living act, the undoubted deed — there, some unknown but still reasoning thing puts forth the mouldings of its features from behind the unreasoning mask. If man will strike, strike through the mask! How can the prisoner reach outside except by thrusting through the wall? To me, the white whale is that wall, shoved near to me. Sometimes I think there's naught beyond. But 'tis enough.

I guess that makes sense. I personally wouldn't find myself addicted.

Just thought it would be a fun way to connect since things tend to be pretty serious on here all the time. We'd get to see a fun and laid back side to some of the people on here. :)

No.  I think that would be a step backwards.  This is not a playground.  This is a learning place and a teaching place.  There are plenty of other places to play around on the Internet.

One of the biggest traps I have run into personally is exoneration. I got this idea from the book the tools again.

You work hard meditating, reading, practicing, being consistent, being careful, you are on point, and your mind starts to get to a great place. It is scary, a bit stressful, uncomfortable, but you see some great heights, get tastes, see glimpses. And you think "this is what I have been looking for"! So you rest, you forget that the good things were the results of your work, intelligence, and diligence. You backslide and return to where you were before.

That is why people around here are hardliners about this kind of stuff. It is so easy to distract. To turn away from the discomfort that change brings.

That being said rest and play certainly have their place :)

I started a thread on here once called something like "things you want to post that don't justify having their own thread" for people to share miscellaneous stuff that they otherwise wouldn't make an entire thread about. Especially podcast, youtube videos, music, quotes, etc.  Leo eventually shut it down after a few pages saying "Locking this topic because it's turning into a random hodgepodge of stuff. Not a good way to use this forum. If you have something worthwhile to share, take the effort to start your own topic. If it's not worth starting a topic, then it's probably not worth posting.", so I'm not sure he is on board with using the forum for games. Just posting my experience with trying to do something similar here, obviously I don't speak for Leo.

Yes it's a good idea. When the forum reaches green there will be less being treated like children and more freedom of individual expression. That may take a few years however to reach that kind of collective maturity. But it's evolving. Leo has asked for opinions in a democratic way about how people feel about having their status taken away from their accounts because it was causing problems.

So watch this space :) consciousness evolves and teams evolve in the same manner.

It may take a while, so in the mean time be prepared to play by the "rules". It's all learning anyway, right? ;)

Yeah :) that was very beautifully said, thank you!

It was one of those shows I watched as a child, along with Drake & Josh, iCarly, Spongebob, Fairly Odd Parents, Ed Edd n Eddy, and so on.
