A job that allows to devote life to Spirituality?

14 posts in this topic

I've always had seasonal jobs or part time jobs, and when I discovered self-development and act.org i became a happy person, learned how to master my psychology and be happy in the moment. Also once I had a non-self experience.

Actually, listening to a friends advice, studied something I dont like but there was lot of jobs, I work 10 hours every day and I'm more unhappy and miserable than ever.

I've no social life, end up drained pshycho-physically, drop my meditation habit, al lot of personal backsliding. I came back to the shy introverted and negative thoughts. I hit the gym 3 days a week but dont have time and energy for anything more.

In weekends is when I realize how unhappy i am, how I'm part of the modern slavery, how bad I want to drop the rat-race but dont know how.

I refuse to mainstream conditioning, I dont give a fk about status, what I want is a simple minimalist life that allows me to be free.

This summer vacations I'm gonna take Leo's course of life purpose, but beforehand I planed to save 2/3 of my salary to invest on something to have passive incomes in the future but that requires to remain in this nightmare 10 years or more.

Other oction is to have a 25-30h/week job that would allow me to have most of the day to meditation, spirituality, enjoying time with my loved ones.

Anyone knows another option?

Ive looked this kind of retreats in India or Thailand and volunteerings but are basically a fraud because you have have to pay lots of money and also farm the land all day.

just like how spirituality is an attitude, not a materialistic state, a spiritual job is more about how you approach your work, not what type of work you do.

You could have a job as a priest, and yet still rape little children and be dogmatic for the rest of your life.

You could also be a toilet cleaner, and wash toilets with such love and devotion, that you give the entire room this metaphysical beauty and sparkle, that whoever enters the bathrooms you clean, get instantly transformed into a happy mood by it. You could even put lotus flowers on the drying rack just before leaving. By doing this, you are practicing spirituality. Sure you aren't specifically doing a technique, but your living a spiritual lifestyle, which is 90% of devotion anyway.

You would probably have a passion in something: something deeply interesting, aligns with your deepest desires. Now go and pursue that, and pursue it spiritually.

Google vipasana official retreats, they should be free. And also from what I know once you attended it you are able to "serve" here. I guess they will feed you and provide housing and you'll have to help to organize retreats for others.

Also you can just join some Buddhist monastery or whatever monastery you'll find fancy and live a monk life. Imo, it is worth considering

Btw just curious, what did you study and how (university or something else)? :)

Go walk the Camino Santiago de compastela . Or design your own pilgrimage and do that. People underestimate a pilgrimage , or an epic journey. I did a pilgrimage this year and arrived such a profound thing.

( My pilgrimage wasn’t traditional. Actually my punk band ‘Sheep’ were touring down New Zealand to the city I was moving to live, playing shows in each of the main cities. I viewed it as an epic pilgrimage and as a result, the journey actually became defined precisely as that.)

I have discovered that one epic motherfuckin journey is a brilliant way to find the answer you seek. Just a thought ☺️

Good luck!

I know what you mean. But the work what I do its by nature stressing, competitive, and the environment toxic. basically I create metal pieces in mill/lathe computerized, there's lot of responsability, pressure, and the boss is constantly angry If we dont finish in short time. Everybody in the worksop is stressed and in ahurry, no matter how positive or detached my attitude is, when I enter to my job is impossible to dont be impregnated by this toxic vibe. I cannot pretend that I'm in a bubble and nothing affects me because the job requires taking it seriously, if not ts very easy make mistakes.

Thanks to others who answered me, but the real point of my question, what I need is TIME. Time to have a consistent meditative practice of at least 4 hour a day. It doesnt matter if my job is meaningful or altruistic.

I'm thinking even in working at McDonalds if I can work 6-7 hours. Although I dont defend fast food, but is one of the few companies that doesnt force you to a 9-5 routine.

Why don’t you quit your job?

@Moreira I am at a very similar situation and am seriously considering joining a monastery. Did you think about that?

Yes I informed me about buddhist monasteries, because it isnt a religion.

What I didnt like is that if you want to be a monk they force you to chastity vows, give up your family, obey superior range monks...

There are lot of limitations, and I personally think we are here to live life fully without repressions

@Moreira I've just been on Vipassana  retreat near Moscow and met a guy here from Venesuela who travels throughout whole europe on his bike and stays in these meditation centers. They provide you with free food, sleep place and meditation space. They only ask you to work a little bit for them in return. It is usually a work related to organizing these retreats, serving people who go on them (cooking, etc) and helping to create a better infrastructure for a given center

I am in the same position, looking for a job that let me impact deeply on people lives, healing of some sort and that i can live near nature. I thought in some kind of massage, or holist therapy or something like this. I prefer to work manually, earn less but do it consciously then have a high paying job that is boring and stresses the fuck out of me.
