Our senses are the umbilical cord that connects us to the universe

Our senses are the umbilical cord that connects us to the universe

Do some concepts work like mantra's? and would they have the same effect?
I also  hear a lot of people saying that thoughts and words are something that need to be completely dis identified with.

Personally I find these types of insights helpful in enhancing a new perspective that looks at things outside the usual boundary identifying lens that is typically used to make sense of the rorshark blotch that we call life.
Then i hear the great Allan Watts say that this is like attempting to make the "tail wag the dog"

If that is the case then what is the point of mantra's?

I'm a little hesitant as i am always told to let go and jump. However the slightest bit of silence and my mind all of a sudden starts formulating these cool new ideas (for me) that i other wise wouldn't have seen. My question is is this the right path? Or is insight the distraction?

Some like Teal Swan would say let it distract you to the point you find out what it really represents, then let go of that thing.

Are there any different techniques?

You have kinda the same concerns as I do, that is why I want to find another way, explore what other paths there are to take , enlightenment is nice and all, but I do not feel that it is the way for me,  sure enlightenment is way to return to your true self, but who said that it is a way we need to go, if universe wanted to be himself he would do it, but he made us as we are.

Mantra means a sacred word, not of any use in the day-to-day life experiences, but only significant on a spiritual journey. Unless you are aware of the proper phonetic pronunciation, you can go on repeating a mantra but it will produce no results. Certain sounds transform you, when you listen to classical music you feel a certain silence, if you are receptive.

So it has nothing to do with the words meaning? Kind of like a physical trigger?

@MisterMan

Words and meanings are not what mantras are about. It is not necessary that there should be a meaning to the mantra. Some mantras have meaning but they can become distorted with the passage of time. There are methods for the chanting of these sounds, there is a specified beat, intensity and rhythm.
