Wanting to feel like a child again

10 posts in this topic

I will be graduating in about a week and I am supposed to start a mature life. And yet I feel like many adults are way too serious, way too heavy in a way. I'd like to combine the lightness of a child, seeing the magic of life, with the discipline of an adult.

I don't know, self development always seems to me like a sort of struggle, a "no pain no gain" mentality. It's almost like we think things should be difficult, then and only then will they be worth it, and so they are/become difficult. Especially lately with getting out of school I notice that most of these achievements that we set for ourselves are hollow. I used to think it would make me happy to graduate. I sure am relieved but there was no actual happiness of fulfillment. I sort of knew it was gonna be like that but it kind of hit me the past few days.

But now I am stuck between two ways of thinking. Experiencing the magic of life, like enjoying a musical play, and doing hard work to achieve future aspirations. And by aspirations I mean things like meditating, reading, contemplating, Life purpose etc. Its not all fun and games. Sometimes I feel like it should be. But many times even these more 'spiritual' goals seem generic and dry and, well, not 'magical'. Sometimes I am so overwhelmed with the beauty of reality that it makes me sad I don't always see so clearly.

In one of his videos, I think it was "10 things you don't know you want" or something, Leo said we want to see the magic of life again. How do we go about that?

Is there a specific exercise, meditation or anything like that?

Maybe it's even possible to combine the disciplined approach with the 'magic' approach? Getting excited about the hardships? Happy about any thoughts on the subject :-)

Life is magical for me when I'm out in the nature, making art, singing, AND when I'm hanging out with small children (I have some of my own though ;-) Then one can deeply dive into their world and be a child again.

@Silvester

Consider reading Discipline = Freedom by Jocko Willink.

You can have both the magic Leo was talking about and the discipline. The fact that these things seem contradictory is only conceptual.

In this work, we like to use the term integration. It's a bit like bringing together pieces of a puzzle. One part of you can see the magic in everything and be carefree, and another part of you can get down to work when necessary. It's all still you, just different aspects.

Adulthood is awesome! ............if you do it right. haha It can be ultimate freedom and joy!

There are 4 choices in adulthood that you must be careful with:

1. College Debt

2. Romantic Relationship with unconscious partner. Especially, marriage or having kids with someone who is not conscious and who is unable to self-reflect

3. Mortgage Debt

4. Credit Card Debt

When these 4 decisions go wrong, adults become really serious, zombie-like, and miserable.

If you make these decisions wisely, while continuing to self actualize, you will have an enjoyable adulthood.

To integrate those two things sounds nice, although it must be difficult to find a balance.. I'll look into the book, thanks for the tipp!

@Brittany Lol I guess you're right haha. In my country there is no crazy student loan so I think I will be fine.

@Leo Gura By 'deconstruct your web of beliefs', do you mean self inquiry? I always wonder what the best way of doing that would be. Do you think something like the work from Byron Katie covers this as well?

This is really common with the people who watch Actualized.org, I had this mentality myself. I think that is this way because Leo talks about the ego as pure evil instead of God's Mercy ans being a seeker of God. Go at the pace you desire and don't torture yourself!

They are one path, not seperate. By doing spiritual work, you shed Resistance and thus experience Beauty. If your practice does not make you experience Joy, Peace, Love, and Beauty more often in any situation, you are doing something wrong.

Spirituality is any movement towards the Unnamable. Everything is spiritual.

The only true way out Resistance is going into it because any way out of it is staying in it.

The purest life possible is surrendering to the Absolute.

Sit down with a journal and break down all your beliefs by asking, "What is really true?"

You are God. You are Truth. You are Love. You are Infinity.

Find some free time and spoil yourself with a psychedelic. Even one experience can shift the direction of your life and help you remember who you are.
