Does free will exist?

238 posts in this topic

Maybe life is a dream, and just like how in a dream one can become lucid and gain some control over what happens (and more and more control with practice), in life one can awaken and better control what happens.

But just like in a dream you realize you are not the person in the dream, in life you realize you are not the person in your life.  So it is not the dream character in control but the higher consciousness in control of the entire dream/life itself.

Or maybe we're all just made up of tiny atom balls bouncing off each other and free will doesn't make sense in principle cause one would need to be able to bend the laws of physics to choose to do something contrary to what the rest of the universe would have one do.

I would say that there is whole insight into all of this. It is then expressed through thought/language later.  These thoughts aren’t the actual thing but just a pointer. That is more like speaking through ego than from ego.

Yes I just worded it horribly perhaps because I'm tired.

If you’re speaking about your life history you are speaking from ego; speaking from the conditioned.

To have total insight and to point to it via thought is not quite the same.

It is still tampered with by ego non the less.

By the limitations/cultural conditioning of the particular language used for example; grammar/style of the language

think he's saying you are speaking from being "identified" with ego/thoughts and that they are speaking from "observing" ego/thoughts in action, as a continues movement, when seeking psychological security.

So can it be said that the insight is whole, in the now.

And then expressed fragmentally through the old (thought/language/knowledge) as a pointer?

Yes.

If Thought being (experience, knowledge, memory) is observing then observation is fragmented, partial, not whole.

Observation that is whole implies thought (assumptions, prejudices, conclusions from the past) are not in movement at the moment of observation.

In that Observation, everything that thought has created is not observing.

Only pure observation void of the thinker (the past) can see the whole.

This is more new-agey but astrology says  that certain events happen at certain times and that most things are pre-determined. But is astrology BS, or a set of beliefs? This is for you to decide. ( To me, it is a more occult thing) I guess you have programming too. Honestly I don't know

When you get really advanced, you’ll forget about all this walking on eggshells and trying to arms-length the Ego.  That’s for beginners.  At the advanced stage, you’ll just naturally maintain keen awareness.  All this hyper-vigilance stuff goes down the toilet at the advanced stage.  I don’t even use the word ‘non-duality’ anymore — it’s just training-wheels for noobs.

Hyper-vigilance lol

we are taking about awareness-pure observation.

If you are not aware of that, your keen awareness is rather limited, narrow, selective and therefore finite.

Hehe.  You’re always trying to be the Enlightenment Police dude.  Why?  Why judge my attainment?

I’m not talking about “enlightenment” my man.

We were talking about observation free of thought.
