Doing Shamanic Breathing (Rebirthing) correctly

10 posts in this topic

Hi all! my 1st post in the forum :)

I have some questions about the shamanic breathing method and would love to get your advices :-)

1. I keep getting lost in thoughts while trying to do the Shamanic Breathing and forget to breath in that method. Have any suggestions? while meditating for 1 hour I keep my focus way way better. I do 20-40 minutes of meditation every day and sometimes 1-2 hours at a time.
Any tips on that?

2. How to deal with muscle cramps? I get them in my hands.

3. What is the difference between hyperventilation and the Shamanic Breathing? Could it be my cramps are due to hyperventilation?

Thanks in advance! :)

@WilliamFogg i did some research and what i found out is that those cramps are caused by the hyperventilating and that it's not really possible to get around it. You are talking about your fingers and wrists kind of clenching together right ? That's what i always have and it makes going beyond 30 minutes very painful.

Exactly... So I'm wondering if I should slow my breathing or breath a bit differently...

I did shamatic breathing with a facilatator twice and 3-4 times alone.  The facilitator explain to me that cramps comes when we are not breathing properly during the technique. If we could stick with the proper breathing we should be good. That being said, I had cramp every time I did shamanic breathing. It's a good time to practice witnessing and loving everything that arise ☺

What do you mean by "proper breathing"? What is not a proper breathing?...
thanks

Is very useful for blockages, to do it in series, and then come back to slow deep breathing.

@WilliamFogg Sure that wasn't clear. I mean having the same among of air coming in that the among of air coming out. Also it's important to not pause between the inspiration and the expiration.

Thanks! How is hyperventilating breathing different than the shamanic breathing?
In hyperventilating - do you inhale longer than exhale or the opposite?

I'm asking these questions to know how to correct my breathing.

Many thanks for the advice! :)

When hyperventilating you exhale more than you inhale. Good luck with your practice

Thanks a lot! In that case I'm guessing that if it start happening I should inhale a bit more and exhale less :)
