I work with my best friend and this is destroying our relationship

3 posts in this topic

I was struggling to find a job in my thing, and my best frend told me to study what he had done, because in his sector there was a lot of work.

I studied, I passed the exams, made practices in my friends company and after that the boss offered me a job contract.

At first my best friend was teaching me everything in a right pace, starting on doing easy tasks, later more complexes.

For 2 weeks he has been leting me alone absolutely abandoned. i really lost. Its a very technical job and with what I learned in the course isnt enough.

I told him that these tasks were very hard for me to do without supervisation, I have a lot of doubts, i'm paralized by the fear to break some expensive machine, but he says I know how to do that.

I have a very hard time at work, stresses and doubting while other workers observe me stuck on tasks because I dont know how to do it.

I'm not a retarded, I was one of the more advances in my course, but my friend is very impatient.

I dont know what to do.

If I end quiting he'll be angry because he talked to the boss to hire me.

That's just how it is. When you are new at a job it's kind of like that first year in Highschool. You will be the Fucking New Guy.

Over time you will get better.

Have you tried going to him and talking to him about all this?

It's in his best interests as well as yours that you succeed, you suggest. Figure out how you can arrange to talk to him privately, maybe outside of the workplace, and talk to him.

I might start with a very direct approach. "Hey man, did I do something wrong, have I offended you?  If I have, can we fix it? Because I need your advice, I'm starting to get overwhelmed. ",

Workplaces can be weird, as SFRL said. And it's very common for a person, especially in tech, to discover that they have to immediately learn a whole new way of working or thinking as soon as they are hired.

If your friend cant help, look for another mentor, and immerse yourself in what you are trying to learn.
