If everything is a distraction, why bother doing anything.

I'm having some difficulty with two seemingly opposing concepts and was hoping to get more insight on it . On one hand, everything is a distraction including career money relationship or even family. On the other hand, I must become self actualized and achieve all these great things in life and reach my full potential.....for what? I’m having hard time trying to motivate myself with the understanding that no external things can make me fulfilled and that everything is just an illusion.

Those are a lot of unsubstantiated statements. Literally everything you said is pretty much just a perspective or opinion.

To be frank, everything is a distraction and nothing is a distraction. It depends on who you ask, but there is no right answer.

There is no “must” in life. One does not HAVE to do anything. Achievement is subjective, great is too. If anyone believes in “full potential” then that’s probably a sign of being duped.

Earning money can be a distraction but if you have money already, don't renounce it. If you are possessed by money,if you cling to it, then it is wrong. Otherwise money can provide you many things which can make your life and journey of self development easier. Nothing is wrong in having a beautiful house, garden, swimming pool and healthy food.
