Technological Enlightenment- Can We Turn Off The Self Remotelly?

so im studying medicine at the moment and i've been blue-skying on the possibility of using electromagnetic induction to temporarily turn off people's sense of self, offering a glimpse on the no-self and helping them achieve more traction towards enlightenment. do you guys thinks that thats feasible? do you think it would really help anyones psychological life or shortcut their journey somehow? is it ethical to do this? i wanna hear(read) your perspective on this

If you could do it without destroying the person's brain, similar to binuaral beats, then hell yeah! It would be a revolutionary technology greater than electricity or the PC.

Psychedelic drugs do just this. Nothing unethical about them. The unethical thing is banning them.

sure thing psychelics do this, but it doesn't seem to 'stick' or to be very profound, to be the 'real deal', at least in my experience

The idea is to have the wisdom to translate the experience into your sober reality.

Of course, because for it to "stick" all the 100 billion neurons in your brain have to rewire. Usually takes a decade.

Maybe you could speed things up with nano-robots who rewire your brain for you (patent pending )

While at it, you may as well invent a technology to cram 12 years of school + 4 years of college into your brain in the flash of a second.

I would say that this would be problematic. I had two experiences where I transcended my ego as a result of trying Ayahuasca. They were amazing because I was unafraid of death and I realized that I was deeply connected with everything that is. My consciousness expanded to include everything and I had a deep feeling of enmeshment with all that was. It was amazing. The issue no is that I have a memory of those experiences, and a memory is a thought. So, my ego doubles down in some ways to prevent this experience from happening again. I also have extra biases and prejudices in relation to the concept of enlightenment that I'm having to work through.

I think if the technology was permanent, this would be amazing. Humanity would become so much more humane. But if it were temporary, people would run into the same issues as I mentioned in my message to Lorenzo Engel above. I often have issues with depression/anxiety now because, through contrast with those experiences, everything is a struggle. Everything was always a struggle before then too, only now I'm acutely aware that I'm struggling. Before I could lie to myself that I was happy. So, temporary enlightenment is something that I don't recommend for most people, even though it was good in the sense that it showed me that enlightenment was worth pursuing. I was also very spiritually skeptical, atheist leaning, and closed minded about anything relating to god and not backed by science, prior to my experiences. I wouldn't have even wanted to look into enlightenment had it not been for those experiences. So, I guess you could say that I have nuanced feelings.

Ayahuasca had this effect on me, and I came out of the experience with a completely new world-view. I never tried any other psychedelic substance, but I can't imagine that it would be as profound. I went in expecting funny colors and sights, and came out with a direct experience of the truth beyond the ego. It was profound, but not permanent. But at least it got me thinking in this direction.

Exactly. Only it doubles down. I had a strong ego before my experiences. Now I have a weak ego, that I'm trying to build back up mindfully in hopes of transcending it.

Gnarf. I would chose the other way round: Using neuro-feedback to let people learn how to turn off their default-mode-network (which is responsible for the permanent self-talk in your head which keeps you in the dualistic cage). Referring to Gary Weber once you've learned how to achieve this state the brain tends to go back to this new operating state. This way has also the benefit that you've gained means to achieve this state on your own and not through an external stimulation (regardless if it's an electromagnetic impulse or psychedelics).

According to this guy here this "re-programming" of the brain could be achieved (perhaps with standard EEG equipment?) in one week - but costs 15,000 $. Dave Asprey talks in one interview about this method (in this video here).

I think the demand for an usb or bluetooth neuro-feedback device for your smartphone which costs about 400 bucks is really there (and we would probably do a collective order in this forum ).

I changed my college course to medicine because of this. While I'm doing meditation and enlightenment work I'll be doing research about this because I think if that is possible it can be the solution of most humans problems. Check James Austin work, he is a neurologist that wrote many books about meditation and the brain, it's pretty cool.

He mentions something done like this during the video, to overload a certain part of the brain, to max a person out on the fear of death people often experience right before enlightenment, and then straight into the peace afterwords.  I don't know much about the physical brain stuff involved in this, but this guy seems to have some knowledge about it.

I googled a bit and you can actually get this for $99. I would love to test it, but I'm not quite willing to spend that money just for some testing. I guess training certain brainwaves would work - but that doesn't mean it will give you the turiya/turiyatita because by definition it is beyond the level of appearances.
