How important are parents on the journey of actualization

Parents have some ambitions they would like to fulfill through their children. They would like their children to be rich, famous, respected; they would like their children to fulfill their unfulfilled egos. 

Conflict between parents and children arises because while children grow out of childhood, parents never grow out of parenthood.

If you can love your parents, if you can live harmoniously with your parents, it indicates that you have achieved higher consciousness. Living with your parents harmoniously is the real test.

pretty important, as it's difficult to become self-actualized as a human without being born first

I think it's fairly important. Most successful people had parents that stimulated their children to be successful in a certain area at least to some degree. 

Tiger Woods, Michachel Jordon, Lewis Hamilton, The Williams Sisters all had this for example.
