First establish in yoga, then act

6 posts in this topic

I’ve heard sadhguru say this multiple times. First establish in yoga, then act. I also heard him say something along the lines of, “you can be the most successful person in the world, make billions of dollars, but if you do not understand what this is (I believe he’s referring to enlightenment) then it is a wasted life.”

A WASTED LIFE!?!? You’re telling me if Elon musk doesn’t become enlightened he wasted his life? Or Gary V? Or Tony Robbins? Or the other highly successful people?

Whats the point in spending any time pursuing mastery in any other field than consciousness work? What’s the point in doing anything else but focusing on becoming enlightened, if that’s the most important thing?

I want to have my life purpose impact in the world but maybe that should come second, only after realizing my true nature.

Thoughts?

Yeah well, one does things without understanding the why. It is kind of mindless you know. One does not understand the difference between a wasted life or a not wasted life before this

There are no outer standards of success. They are efforts to cover up your inner emptiness, efforts to deceive yourself and to make you feel that you have not failed. In fact, man tries to possess things because he does not possess himself. This is a strategy to hide the fact that he does not possess himself. This is a strategy to hide the fact that he does not possess himself; this is a way of explaining away the inner emptiness; this is a way to feel, 'Look, I have so many things, what else does one need?' When you are surrounded by too many things - what you call 'success by outer standards' - what exactly are you doing? You are trying to create a substitute of 'having' for an emptiness which you are feeling inside. Being is missing, and you are trying to replace it by having. And it cannot be replaced by any having.

There are not many successes - and that one success is to know oneself, to be oneself. Through that, one attains to ecstasy; through that, one attains to the ultimate.

Jesus says the same thing in different words. He says: “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, then all else will follow.”

Alexander was trying to create a bigger kingdom, to become a bigger king. His whole life was wasted in creating the kingdom, and then there was no time left for him to be king. He died before the kingdom was complete. This has happened to many. The kingdom can never be complete. The world is infinite - your kingdom is bound to remain partial.

@Slade

If you honestly just expect that the accumulation of success and resources alone will fulfill you, you're in for a rude awakening. It will not. Fulfillment requires an inner shift where you become grounded in spiritual essence.

BUT that does not mean success is irrelevant. This is the part Sadhguru didn't mention.

There's still plenty of reasons to go out and be successful. Here is a small list:

1) The more successful you are, the more of a positive impact you can make

2) Success motivates you to keep pursuing your life purpose

3) Success often forces you to evolve and grow

4) Success leads to pride in your accomplishments and who you are

5) Success can provide you with the resources to take on more meaningful challenges

So no, you don't have to commit yourself to pursuing mastery in only consciousness. There are many, many valid paths. But people always like to claim that their path is the "true path", which is of course bullshit.
