Mindful Meditation To Recognize Fear !?

3 posts in this topic

Hi Life-purpose/enlightenment seekers!  I need your input.

In Leo's Life Purpose course, #37 'Fear & Comfort Zone,' at 11:47, Leo talks something like "indirect method to deal with fear is mindfulness & meditation."  --> I need clarification for this part.

In Leo's free YouTube videos, he talks about meditation and the 'how to.'  During 20 minutes (or more if possible) daily meditation, we think of [nothing] or being mindful (recognize bodily sensation while sitting, being aware of environment, etc.)  <-- I think I got this part.

Here is my confusion. --> We face [fear] and recognize it as a part of mindful meditation!?  <-- I somewhat understand it, like, "Fear is a part of emotion so recognize it."  But . . When I recognize/recall [fear], some stress hormone, like cortisol?, will get activated and . . I will get stressed out and get tensed and . . . Isn't the mindfulness meditation supposed to be peaceful?

Dealing with fear is emotional labor, as Leo says.  Fear has been crippling my life, real bad.  I want to knock it out from my life as much as possible.  So I want to know the [right way] during meditation.

(And I do 5 minutes affirmation while sitting as easy-pose right after my daily Yoga.)

I appreciate your inputs.  Thanks.

@OceanJjb I think i watched the video but i don't remember it so good

.. so i can only tell you the way i think currently: you can't knock you fear out if you try to fight or suppress it.

.. but here the good new: if you still present in yourself you will recognize that fear can't damage you, it almost always come from old stories, but even this doesn't really matter.. Thoughts aren't real, give them up or at least don't follow them :) and meanwhile they still have some power on you, you can, nevertheless, decide to do the things you want, accepting that you are frightened. Feel it in your stomac (or wherever), acknowlege your fear because it only tries to protect you ..

and go ahead, it's ok :)

All your feelings are ok, it's what makes you feel alive.. every single feeling!

@OceanJjb No, mindfulness is not supposed to be peaceful especially in the first years. The path is not easy,  you have to be wise and realize that is a  long term goal that will bring you total happiness and real peace. I can tell you that is the most important skill that you can practice in your life because effects all areas in your life. And without this practice you'll never find real fulfilment.
