@Mikael89 You can meditate during a job...Put all your focus on what you are doing. That IS meditation.

Stop making excuses and find solutions. It seems that you dont really want IT...

I agree. I am a 24 year old mother with a full time 8am-5pm, mon-fri job AND I am deeply involved in my Church on Sundays, Wednesdays and any other days they ask me in. PLUS I'm dealing with a ridiculous court case over a car accident I was in a few weeks ago.

Yet I still have time to meditate. It may not be an all day, everyday thing, but 30 mins here and there has got to be better than nothing :)

Just look at your schedule and make time ;)

Just remember: Einstein had the same number of hours in the day as you did ;)

You know- after contemplating happiness deeper just the fact that we are all here to experiance this amazing thing we call life/reality is quite a miracle in itself.

that's it, it's pretty simple, gratitude is one of the most powerful sources of happiness. (though for me it's insanely hard)

Grateful? That's hilarious. I actually laughed a bit.

Even if you don't suffer much in this life, "you" will suffer in other lives, for eternity.

Very true, but that doesn't mean you have to let it effect you :)

Suffering is part of the human condition, but it's not part of enlightenment. At least the way I understand it right now.

I think you become grateful when you are able to look past your suffering and see the "bigger picture" of life. Just think, of all of the places you could have been born and all of the people you could have gotten as parents, you ended up right where you are surrounded by the people there. The universe is infinite so your very existence can be a blessing :) You could have been born with no arms or legs AND deaf, dumb, and blind, but you didn't. That's something to be grateful for and you can find a million reasons to be happy in that.

But I'm a pretty ideological person lol I will admit I don't know much, but you can't be happy if you focus on the suffering. (That one's kind of a no brainier lol)

There is no secret to happiness. The answer is exactly what one would expect. A: Create meaningful relationships with people you like, based on mutual trust, care and respect. Spend as much quality time with these people as possible, coversing or doing activeties that you enjoy doing. B: Spend more time thinking about whats great about your life than whats missing, and C: Your body should be your temple - lead a reasonably healthy lifestyle.

These are the fundamentals - Everything else is frosting on the cake.

Tell me this doesn't make you happy. Come on, don't lie. Maybe just for a second you smiled? hehe

@zoey101 That's the key.  When it appears you enjoy it knowing with total clarity that nothing lasts forever.

What people? What relationships?

Last time I had a friend was when I was about 17. I'm 29 now.

And of course I have never had a partner and never will have in my lifetime.

Even if there is a bigger picture and even if suffering has a reason: Overall it's not worth it. If i would somehow become happy I would still have the same opinion.

I wish I could go back to believing in the eternal death. The ending part is comforting.

I want to be one of the frogs in the picture. Or wait.. I am the frogs :P

I'm really sad to hear this. This is a surprisingly common life-situation. Loneliness is apparently considered a major epidemic in contemporary society. What is preventing you from making friends or finding a partner?

There are overwhelming evidense, including from major meta studies and longitudional studies, that strong social bonds are hands down THE main ingredient to a long, happy and healthy life.

From what Ive read loneliness even reduced life expectancy even more than smoking cigarets.

My personality, it sucks and no one likes it, I'm not likeable.

I'm shy, have a bit social phobia, and I talk very very very little. I'm easily the most quiet person in this forum (irl).

So when spiritual teachers talk about being quiet.. I'm a master in quietness :P ?

Shyness/social phobia is not a life sentence. It is an extremely well researched disorder, and there are a tonn of stuff you can do to slowly cure yourself of it: Incremental exposure, taking smal social risks, and then rewarding yourself, CBT, cognitive reappraisal, heavy weightlifting, eating healthy etc.

Have you tried any psychiatric drugs? I can wholehartedly recommend Nardil.

It's just that my life situation makes it difficult for me to be happy.
