Sex symbol vs Succes symbol

27 posts in this topic

Women are seen as sex symbols by men. Men are seen as succes symbols by women.

Opinions?

I completely agree. In order for a man to make it big they have to be talented, super charismatic and wear the right suits (being white doesn't hurt either, but that's another topic :P)  In order for women to achieve the same things, we usually have a good amount off ass kissing and sexual harassment we need to go through before we can get to that level of success, and we still won't be paid the same.

I do hope this Women Empowerment movement that has started across the globe will at least shorten this sexist gap by the time my daughter grows up. As for my generation, better get the lipstick and mini skirts ready.

Lmao. You do know...you dont have to be like everybody else, right? I mean, women in general.

@Ether Lol I don't do that. Most women have to or feel the need to. I almost never wear makeup and skirts lol

But I will say, I got my current job because of my "beautiful smile" and how "popular" I was with the guests at my previous restaurant job (My manager said as much). It's only now that they are seeing that I can do more than smile and say "Welcome, how may I help you?" lol

But I was just hyperbolizing to make a point mostly lol

@zoey101 Well if it’s the service industry looks do matter, maybe you have noticed that in the really high quality clothing stores it applies regardless of gender.

You dont need or have to do that, its a choice. You can make your own business

@Spiral That's actually not completely true. I've had some really ugly (sorry to be mean about it) guys work with me up front in the restaurants, but girls that don't fall under the "traditional idea of beauty" aren't even giving a second interview despite any schooling or experience they may have.

@Ether Are you saying there is no difference or double standard between men and woman in the work force?

Women can make whatever choices they want, yes, but the question was are women seen more as sex symbols than men. The answer is yes. Whether you are equality minded or not, this is how the business world works.

@zoey101 Well I suppose we have had different experiences then. Different probably countries too.

@Spiral Hand made in the USA lol

I'm not saying that this is the case 100% of the time. Just that you have to realize and admit that what @SFRL asked is totally legitimate. It happens every day in a large part of the world.

But like I said, there has been a beautiful movement of Women Empowerment across the globe. And I do pray they don't lose their fight.

If anyone can shatter the glass ceiling, it's a woman with her 9 inch stiletto ;)

@zoey101

I don't disagree with @SFRL at all, just you in regards to the service industry. If I owned a restaurant and could pick a ugly or good looking guy to be a waiter I would absolutely pick the better looking one . I may live in Sweden but i'm not that much of a socialistxD Now sure you have like hooters but I mean normal restaurants, I would feel ashamed going there to be honest :$

If we are talking about any other industry, the movie industry for instance people are absolutely shown in the way @SFRL described.

You realize it's illegal to pay woman less for the same position ? If you know any case like that you can inform the authorities.
Or you just talking bs ? :D

You can look it up if you like :) women get hired for the same jobs as men (I'm talking big corporate jobs in this case) and they get paid less. It's not an unknown thing here in the US. It's something women have been fighting for a long time. I can't speak for other countries. I just know that's how things are here.

If any big corporation did that they would face serious legal consequences, especialy in the US.

Also if woman get paid less for THE SAME job why would anyone hire men ?
They do same work but cost more money, makes no sense.
All these construction companies should start hiring women and save some serious money xD

@wavydude Well men increase their salary more than women, to a big degree because male traits predict advantages outcomes from negotiation how much they "should" earn.  They are still employed at the same rate.

Now is that unfair? well it depend on how you view equality.

@SFRL

There's some truth to that. But you can definitely find cases where that isn't true at all.

@Spacious Since when did reason justify inequality? xD

Although certain “female” jobs are undervalued like nurses, lots of stress, danger and a academic requirement. Although that’s  kind of a different topic.

That's what I'm saying lol. I don't think EVERY woman in the world is treated this way, but you can't say that it doesn't happen. That's just being intentionally blind to what is already a very well known problem.

This topic took off in a whole other direction then I intended. Nevertheless a good discussion.

What I meant to say: Men are attracted to women they view as sex symbols. Based on looks mostly.

Women are attracted to succesful men. Men with recourses like money, a good career, a house, a car. And just general knowledge and experience in life.

I mean I am 34 and I recently got a much better job.

I got a date setup up tonight with a 23 year old. Tomorrow with a 22 year old. Both very pretty girls. ?

Why would I date women that have hit or about to hit the wall of my own age. It doesn't make sense.

LMAO yeah we totally went in a different direction xDxDxD

As far as this, I think it's just the human superficial nature sometimes :)

My husband was broke when I met him lol so I can't say that I fall under this category, but I do think it's a real thing :)
