Are blogs fading away?

6 posts in this topic

I started a blog that did okay back in 2013 but shut it down due to my mind games and well immaturity.

Well now I do have something to say but not sure if blogging is still the way to go at this time with the short attention spans of people.

I have various interests;  travel, personal development/mental health,  raising concious kids etc

Podcasts? Youtube? IG?

Thanks

Blogs still get a lot of attention it's just a matter of how valuable it is that you write about. Some blogs I follow is scott h youngs and cal newports blog.

I started my own blog and when I shared what I wrote it got more attention than I expected. (8 likes as my second blog post ever)

some of cal newports posts have gotten 99 replies and some of scott h youngs have gotten 100+.(Just from what i remember)

Also blogging is something that can take a lot of time so don't expect to get immediate results. To really get results you need to be prolific and have something rarer and valuable to offer. I wouldn't expect to get results if you didn't continue for a long time. (you can't avoid spending time on progress in order to make progress)

If i remember right it toke some years until scott h young got some traffic to hes website.

Leo also have a blog that seem to be followed.

Also the short attention spans of people doesn't really change just because you change to something else unfortenly. Thats not really how it works. If you change to youtube or podcast it's still there.

Nah blogs are still very powerful. They haven't faded away and they're not going to any time soon. A good portion of people still learn and absorb primarily through reading. What form of content you focus on should come down to what you're more comfortable and skilled at - whether it's written, audio or video.

Are you trying to create a brand/niche/online-business or trying to actively creative maximum reach? Do all of them + the blog. Sound overwhelming? It's not necessarily what ya think:

Have to agree with the rest of the users, blogs are still making a very big impact in the media space today. One of my favorites is the "Wait But Why" blog  written by Tim Urban. It's a long-form approach with deep dives into a wide array of subject matter. You can visit here https://waitbutwhy.com/

That being said, I definitely don't think that podcasts or YouTube channels are a bad bet, but they certainly have a different audience, monetization routes, and best practices. You'll want to be aware of those things before you make any decisions.

Also most importantly, remember to commit! There are essentially NO barriers to entry in media these days, and if there are, they continue to shrink each and every year. This means that more people enter the industry, more content is produced, and in terms of money- it becomes a race to the bottom. You should understand the ramifications of this- you must have a true passion, and be willing to work hard for YEARS before you see any results.

Hope I was able to provide some insight.

Whatever it is, it's just a medium. I would say you're procrastinating doing something actually. You're never going to be 100% sure. Test the waters.
