How many hours should you meditate?

I'd say that would be one of the benefits. There are a variety of techniques, but they all lead to honing in on your "self", i.e. revealing the construct you've created, "bought" into, and now protect because you believe you are that. With time, you become more aware of your thoughts such that you realize you are thinking. When you look at what you are thinking about you see all kinds of stuff. If you have low self-esteem, you start to "hear" and "see" it in your thoughts. Eventually, you realize why that thought has come to be. There can be many reasons for low self-esteem, but in the end, they are all just your own creation; a collection of things that happened a point x, y, z, etc. that are strung together to form a construct that isn't even true in this moment. You just believe it to be true. Once you realize the illusion, that it is just a thought that changes to another thought and is not real, you will find relief and realize that what you truly are is awesome.
