How long should I delay gratification?

8 posts in this topic

So I always read about delaying gratification, I do look for cheaper alternatives in life for example I want my dream car and technically I could take out a loan and buy it now, but I know its not a good thing to do, so instead I'll get a cheaper car. I try to think with the end in mind. But what about things like for example you feel like having a coffee or buying chocolate in the shopping centre or something like that? Should you always say no, to practice gratification or does it depend on your goals?

I read something that said not to reward your self until you earned It , like for example I can't have that piece of chocolate until I complete my project.

@SuchIsLife Delay gratification (use willpower) to the point where your mind doesn't care whether you do or you don't buy that chocolate bar or the coffee.

Be careful, and be honest with yourself when you make the decision that you really could go without it.

When you can walk buy the coffee shop without any emotional pull and you have a steady mind either way, grab a coffee and enjoy it :)

No, is all you have. Avoid ego depletion. Willpower suggests to me setting yourself up against some potential.
