Facing Fear

8 posts in this topic

Whenever I have to answer something in class, I'm ok for like 2 seconds and then I can feel my heart go up crazy. I'm relatively not really scared to answer the question beforehand, but its really been irritating.

Also I have this thing when someone mentions something I'm nervous about I start shaking a little, even though it doesn't get to bad and I can handle it, its still irritating and a problem.

I'm currently doing an affirmation "I am a master performer" to try and prevent this, and also make it so I'm less nervous when I go up for bigger presentations.

Any suggestions? typically dealing with fear, you get over it by going through it, which I've done multiple times with what seems like little help, and affirmations are supposed to change your view so you react differently to something, and I've been doing it for 21 days so far, and maybe its not long enough.. idk...

Yeah change happens over years not days usually. And why is it so bad to be affraid? Maybe you can just enjoy being nervous and then performing well despite off it. Could be a challenge that could make you grow right? You shouldn't fear fear. Just accept it when it is there. You'll be seeing a lot of fear in your life anyway so it's good to establish a good relationship to it early on.

And anyone who is a master performer doesn't need to say that to himself. i think you subconsciouss realises this too. I'm super super sceptical about affirmations. But that's just my personal opinion.

@Jamie Universe I feel you bro :) there is way out of it. I recommend you try upa yoga at least once. These are practices for mental peace, balance and wellbeing.  I'd be happy to hear your feedback :)

@Nahm Yes, exactly!

@Jamie Universe A technique to get rid of triggered fear responses. Try to be a perfect host for your feelings, even if they feel like sh*t. Welcome them by a generous greeting, and ask if they need anything. Don't react to or involve in the feeling, only play the role of a perfect host. This way you train your brain not to make any 'negative' or 'danger' signs out of any feelings your having. This will eventually lead to dissapearing of those feelings in those situations because your brain doesn't related them to a fear response anymore. Practice makes perfect!

Note: it's human to have some reptillian brain fear. But self created trigger responses by repeating behavior is not.
