Bruce Lee & Enlightenment

If this doesn't make you smile, I don't know what will. I've seen this movie (Enter The Dragon) since I was a kid. Studying what I study now and seeing this just brings me such a smile.

Bruce Lee was much wiser than people think.

His self inquiry approach was fantastic.

Truth comes when your mind and heart are purged of all sense of striving and you are no longer trying to become somebody; it is there when the mind is very quiet, listening timelessly to everything.

Effort within the mind further limits the mind, because effort implies struggle towards a goal and when you have a goal, a purpose, an end in view, you have placed a limit on the mind.

Bruce Lee

To express yourself in freedom, you must die to everything of yesterday. From the 'old', you derive security; from the 'new', you gain the flow.

One does not accumulate but eliminate. It is not daily increase but daily decrease. The height of cultivation always runs to simplicity.

Notice that the stiffest tree is most easily cracked, while the bamboo or willow survives by bending with the wind.

A wise man can learn more from a foolish question than a fool can learn from a wise answer.

Real strength is determined by the suppleness of body/mind??

I love that example, I have it always present for difficult situations.

Bruce has become a favorite of mine as of late for this reason.  A man with worldly power, influence and true wisdom.  Exceedingly rare.

Leo even quoted him in recently.  I don't recall which video, but he commented about "a finger pointing to the moon" and not focusing on the finger.  Might have been in the Quantum series.

"It's better to light a candle than curse the darkness"

Presence.  Acceptance.  Purpose.

The knowledge and skills you have achieved are meant to be forgotten so you can float comfortably in emptiness, without obstruction.

Bruce Lee

To realize freedom the mind has to learn to look at life, which is a vast movement, without the bondage of time , for freedom lies beyond the field of consciousness care for watching, but don't stop and interpret "I am free," then you're living in a memory of something that has gone before.

Bruce Lee

Only when the known ceases ‘that which is static, dead, and bounded’ can there be the possibility to live in the dynamic, alive, and boundless infinite realm of timelessness.

I think he missed meditation. In an interview Bruce Lee said,

"If you want something beautiful, take modern dancing. What good would it do a boxer to learn to meditate? He's a fighter; not a monk."

yeah as he got older he stoped meditating,  as far as the sitting cross leged, concentrated, type of meditation. At this point he he realized that it was no necessary for himself. He had at that point freed himself psychologically from all forms of traditional /cultural patterns and movements to become. Psychologically speaking of course.

For him his art was the equivalent to how monks meditate. Concentrated movment of will, demand, concentration/focus.

He understood thought/ego so well that he didn’t see in any purpose in that type of meditation. He did spend a lot of time doing what I think people call mindful meditation. Meditation being total attention wihtout control, suppression, to change what is to what should be. Also he was a very serious self inquirer which led to even deeper quieting of the mind to a point where his center ceased.

Im not sure how quiet his mind got but from what he says he seems to have had a taste of this sense of no center.

He was a cool dude ?
