9 posts in this topic

In Latin, Ego literally translates to I.

The Son,

Your reply seems to imply that you have some kind of unspoken response in mind.

I agree with others posting here on the Ego being a part of the package.

"You" are not your body.

Okay, so you can chop of your hand and still be "You".

You can continue negating body parts, psyche aspects, and etc.

But without your hand, how will you drink your water?

The ego is what you think you are. YOU is literally the ego. No wonder Ego is translated to I, because you are the ego. Letting go of the ego means letting go of you. Literally you. Also don't chop your hands off, and in the same manner you also won't completely cut off your ego. You will only learn that you are not your ego, because what you think is you and the ego are both illusions. I think this war against the mind/ego is a fallacy, but too many people fall into this trap. Trust me, not even Eckhart Tolle and likemindet spiritual gurus have cut off the ego completely. They still have it, but they only know better, they know not to identify with it and they know that who they think they are, they really aren't.

I find this metaphor attributed to the Buddha to be on point.

"The Ego in Samsara is a fire. The Way to Nirvana is putting out that fire. What is there after the fire is gone? Nothing."

Why is it so important to separate the awareness that is me, from the ego inhibited in the same body?
