Mastery Chapter Two

3 posts in this topic

The author explains the path of mastery is long and difficult. Once on it, most of us fall on other paths that attracts different types of persons. The author went on explaining that there are 3 types of people. The dabbler, the obsessive and the hacker.

The dabbler is the one that starts strong and is very exited but once reaching the plateau  looses interest and leaves for something else .

The obsessive is the one that starts the same way and once at the plateau doubles the efforts to the point of getting hurt or hurting others. the obsessive wants results at all cost.

The hacker on the other hand will stay at the plateau indefinitely by doing the bear minimum, skipping steps and taking short cuts.

Yep, I fall in this one too. The company I work for developed a performance program with the hop that their employees reach mastery and the end result was that  every single one of them become a hacker and the funny part is that we were rewarded for it. we all figured out a way to go around the bush and developed Technics and short cuts to not master anything. The company move was obsessive and was hurting their employees  because their program was rather focus on end results than the process to get there.
