Mastery Chapter One

3 posts in this topic

What is Mastery?

To better understand mastery is to first understand what is not?

+The author explains that mastery is not a goal nor a destination but rather a journey, a process. any attachment to the end result will jeopardize the mastery acquisition

+Mastery is not reserved to gifted people nor tied to age,sex or experience.

+Mastery is not an end result it starts from the time you decide to start mastering something.

+Mastery is not a smooth process, regardless if you are bright or not you will reach a plateau then some progress then an other decline..and so on.

In other word, the real learning and progress happens when you reach the decline, the plateau, when you feel you are going no where, when you get frustrated and ready to drop the ball.

So now the question is how to overcome all this?

The author explains that your way out is to practice for the sake of practice. In other word  you enjoy the journey and detach yourself from any expectations.

@Coufkir The book mastery is the first book I have ever read about self-actualization.  xD

In the book mastery, the author mentioned that the master practices for the sake of practice. So let's say, you are working on enlightenment, you are going to practice meditation, yoga, self-inquiry, for the sake of practice.

James Rodriguez the young world famous talent join Real Madrid not so many years ago.

He decided to impress the coach, he will reach the training session half hour early. Upon arriving the training ground, he is shocked.

What did he see?

Ronaldo, who is among the extreme top of players in football was already there and was training. Now he doesn't need to prove anything to anybody, he was alrdy at the top. Then, why does he come before even the early arriving trainee.

When, I read this my mind was blown. Ronaldo do not need to go to training early, but when you read a book like mastery you understand that master like Ronaldo, train for the sake of practice, they don't care how long, they love it, they want to grow more and more.
