Stop Getting Seduced by Technology

17 posts in this topic

As you are reading this, you are using technology.

I get it.

But, how many of you have minimized the usage of it?

More and more, sites are designed to systematically manipulate your attention span, and give you dopamine to keep you hook on their sites for as long as possible.

I am starting to realize the effects this is having on everyone in my family and I hope that you take a serious look at the amount of screen time you spend wasting it scrolling nonsense like Facebook feeds or watching videos as a distraction from doing something in real life.

There is a time and place for everything, and I promise you, speaking to your loved ones in real life is worth a million likes.

@Outer @MofO @Shanmugam

Have you applied Spiral Dynamics to this and thought about the long term effects? Are we really about to become zombies who stay in there rooms all day long and have everything done for us?

It seems that all of the business men are pushing a lot of new technologies, but take a look at their well being. They cannot even sit still for 2 minutes.

@Shanmugam No more Video watching for 5 out of 7 days. Is it possible?

What am I going to replace it with?

1. Reading, journaling, and a lot more thinking/understanding.

Yes, it is possible.

But I don't really see a big difference between 'reading/journaling' and 'watching videos' though..:)

Assuming that your intention is in the spiritual path, why not spend time in meditating, self-inquiry, doing simple activities like walking mindfully etc?

@Shanmugam That is the plan

@Faceless Yet look how little we do of it? :S

@Shin This meme hurts

That’s right. Technology has its advantages though. Communication and so on.?

But ultimately not needed to learn about oneself. Actually I prefer a life without the technology these days. I live very simply. No tv, barely any internet time other than the little time spent in communication. I grew up poor, and in the country so I live naturally very simply now. Actually accused of over simplicity lol

actully never owned a phone up until 3months ago. That is my computer/communication device. Only devices I own other than a our vehicles and house appliances

Oh yeah.  The only reason I spend time on here is because I am growing.  If I were to stop growing, I would not be hanging out so much on here.  I like to help others too.  But make no mistake about it, the reason I am here is because I've done a shit-load of personal development on here.  In 1 year I have grown so much, it's amazing.  It's phenomenal actually.  I don't want to sound like I'm tooting my own horn, but it happened for me -- in large part I must say -- from interacting on here.  The best advice I can give someone is use this Forum like a sounding-board for your own growth.  You gotta really want to grow, to become more and more Enlightened.  And there are something like levels to Enlightenment.  I don't think they can be crystallized into one-sized-fits-all stages because they depend on the personality that's becoming Enlightened.  And every personality is so different.
