Question about “self-help gurus”

20 posts in this topic

What are the qualifications of self-help and coaching type of service? Does self-help gurus have a some kind of degree or a diploma what gives them a permission to charge money for their services? What are the rules in this game? Its sounds too good to be true that if i help people to overcome psychosis or whatever difficulties they have in life it is all legal and legit. I cannot believe that.

Please, what am i missing ? Love you guys!

@njuufa

I do coaching myself and I can tell you there's no formal qualifications absolutely needed for this.

But don't think that means it's easy to break into. Low barrier to entry = lots of competition. You're going to have to really grind if you want to build a profitable, long-term business out of it.

I have schizophrenia and I tried to meditate while psychotic. It didn't work.

One of my friend visited hospital without saying anything to anyone. Doctor gave him diagnose of psychosis and 3 different drugs to take. When I talked to him it was obvious for me that he didnt know what was wrong with him.  How doctor could know then ? I mean 99% diseases are based on what patients talk only. When you have a patient who is lost and not able to express himself ? So its not easy to say whats wrong with him. Even when doctors use their ways to discover, these are not creative enough to find a problem. But to drug someone up to get him to talk, seriously??? My friend was so spaced out because of drugs that he turned into "zombie".

So I sat a mission to change his life, I created a practice and 1-on-1 calls every night with him. After healing him up got me thinking like, hey, I have done it before and it seems to work, maybe someone else also needs it. My problem is that I can not find a job or work for other peopIe. I have changed 6 peoples lives before and motivated hundreds of people to live their fullest, but I have never asked money from it. All practices, sessions and food for thought i have created takes a lot of time and energy. I really want to be able to turn this into business to help people 24/7. I am not interested to write songs, create motivational videos, enlight people or uplift them some way. Not that I am against personal branding but I want to work with them face-to-face to really help them out.

@Nahm  Shortly I become another person and be with it for as long as I find a way out without hurting myself. I will find a way out for him and then turn it into session that we can use for healing process. Sometimes it happens within a minute, sometimes it takes a week.

@aurum Here where I live no one cant find help. You can only visit doctors and they will run your symptoms through software. Only self-help businesses here is are based on entrepreneurship and mundane personal work.

@Saumaya Ofc. I would never take a patient that I cannot help.

@brugluiz Meditation is powerful tool but there is like million different ways to do it. Which one works for you? How do you know?

@Saumaya Well that's false. You can never cure a person via treatment (i.e. allopathic medicine). That's like saying a band-aid cures a wound or cut, and that's the only way too. If you cure something, you are, by definition, addressing and correcting the root cause. What's the root cause of schizophrenia?

Congested/acid bowels (ever heard of the gut-brain connection)?

...

Arnold Ehret in the 1900's cured schizophrenia among many other diseases at his fasting clinic with thousands of patients via fasting and his Mucusless Diet Healing System. There is a one-ness to all dis-ease... Truly, if you want to cure one disease completely, you cannot avoid healing the entire body in the process. It's a holistic system. Cheers.

I have been doing zazen meditation. I have a very agitated mind, but medicines are probably worsening my situation. Zazen seems to be fine. I just have to pay attention to my breathing or sometimes name things.

@brugluiz What happens with schizophrenia?

When I was hospitalized, I was psychotic. But hospitalizations and medicines are overrated. There are options of treatments like Soteria houses and Open Dialogue in Finland that don't use medicines. Psychiatry stinks...

Life coaches don't treat psychosis, they're not even supposed to treat someone with major psychiatric illness such as depression, bipolar disorder or major personality disorders.

It's mostly for mild neurotic stuff.

@brugluiz Could try a witchdoctor.^_^ probably more impartial.

So does a person, lose the sense of self as an independent entity with schizophrenia? Is it similar to the movie "A Beautiful Mind." based on John Nash.

Simple: Your opinion. . . that is the answer.

The majority of people are so lost in their minds, that they confuse awakening with mental health and the so called mind professionals of the world.

With this kind of people, there is a need of a guide. I myself gave guidance to some of my friends.

Take this in mind: The most grounded and better singing human being, will have the highest influence among dormant people.

You have to go to a Psychiatrist.. they are specialist that can help you.. try it.. and try to be consistent with your meditation.. I don't know if you can do take psychedelic with that condition, but if ever try to do LSD.. LSD is good for mental health issues.. but I know a schizophrenic quality.because i took up AB Psychology before, and. before we say you have a disorder you must have a delusion and hallucinations for schizophrenic person do whatever it takes for you to be cured.. I'm the person who is brave enough to do self medication and way back when Istarted to discover Leo and this forum I can say that I'm cured and I changed a lot since day 1 ha-ha

There's a fine line between mental illness and spiritual awakenings. People who are willing and able to guide people through their most difficult times with psychosis are very valuable. It basically requires sitting with the person in their state of mind, sometimes for days and weeks on end, and being present, accepting and conscious enough to not freak out or interfere with their process.

I found this mini-videoseries very interesting. Part one explains spiral dynamics. (Not sure why they put half-naked women on the title screen though, heh.)
