Kalama Sutta is my favorite sutta from Pali canon... I have it in the sidebar of my blog and also in my Twitter profile.. . 

The simple summary of it is the following:

Quote

"Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it.

Do not believe in traditions simply because they have been handed down for many generations. ... 

Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. 

But when, after observation and analysis, you find anything that agrees with reason, and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it."

– Buddha, Kalama Sutta

It’s amazing!  I can’t believe there is so much wisdom that never changes.  We tend to think knowledge is something that evolves.  But in some sense wise people of all ages have said the exact same thing.  Those basic traps have always stayed the same for us.  Even the solutions to the traps have stayed the same.
