Is Romantic Love Always Selfish?

3 posts in this topic

Is it possible to love someone selflessly, or is selfishness just an intrinsic part of romance?

Is anything selfless? If I help an old lady cross the street I’ll feel happier, so I benefit. Without this mechanic there would be no “selfishness”.

Even if you are enlightened it’s not like you are helping someone else than yourself so that also becomes redundant.

Doing something is selfish if you do it for selfish reasons. Romance isn't intrinsically selfish but maybe your definition of romance is.
