Trouble visualizing death

4 posts in this topic

There are a lot of different death exercises such as Leo's video, one tool from the tools (imagine you are on your deathbed) and more stoic meditations on death.

Usually I brush it off with beliefs such as yeah w/e the ego is gonna die anyway and who I am is eternal so no problem here death is in no way scary. Of course that's just some beliefs I take to be true and I have not checked for myself because I'm too afraid I guess ? I just reject it because it would be too painful to realize how much time I've wasted so far overall, I believe.

So I'm wondering how I can visualize death properly and get myself motivated that way ?

It is not JUST some beliefs! It is some beliefs that you believe and are not facing because you only guess (ie think) you are scared. You ARE scared so face THAT.

That's like saying, "I'm going to come back anyway.", in terms of future lifetimes, so why worry about fill in blank here.

That kind of understanding is extremely shallow (not saying you are!!), in terms of intellectualism. It has ZERO power.

You actually have a personal death. When you die, you will meet your death. I can assure you that at this point in your life, your death has about ZERO regard for your investment in your final instant on earth with your death.

Who you are, in terms of the being who is going to die, is NOT at all what you think. Intellectualism is powerless in the face of the cosmos.

I suggest ten or twenty years of in-depth self-examination and self-refinement.

Your perspetive will be changed inconceivably.

But people must come to the conclusion that they have no time— and then apply themselves tirelessly.
