consciously work on stopping the addiction if you think its harmful. Enlightenment would just remove the judgement about the activity as in good and bad

What you define as Enlightenment would, if I'm right, buddhists describe "just" as stream-entry, but isn't ultimate enlightenment the cessation of all suffering? Is this only possbile after the body died?
