Hobbies to Replace Addiction

21 posts in this topic

So I'm at the point of the journey where I'm getting monkeys (addictions) off my back, and I'm wondering what types of hobbies are good for filling the time with a good source of pleasure. What are your recommendations?

Good for you ?! Helped me in more ways than one. If you don't mind me asking what are you visualizing towards? Anything in particular? (Just being nosy).

@Charlotte I havent really started much but I am planning on mapping out my "big picture" vision for my life. Health LP/Career Relationships and so on to get a definite feeling for what I really want. Going to start with that after my retreat next week ?

Do you get any waves where you are?..I like surfing...I may be suggesting you trade one addiction for another, but at least this is a healthy one....lol....helps replace harmful addictions with "surf stoke" ocean euphoria.

Here's a quote from an article about this:

"research shows that people feeling “surf stoked” are, in fact, enjoying a chemical cocktail triggered by the charged ions found in the atmosphere around turbulent water. While surfing, we experience elevated levels of Adrenalin and Dopamine. Surf-stoke remains long after we’re back on the beach. Research suggests these persistent effects of surf euphoria may be attributed to an unlikely candidate: sea spray." https://www.theinertia.com/environment/scientists-froth-on-surf-stoke/

How about watching films? I mean films that challenge your worldview, require focus and have some kind of message to ponder about. If you watch difficult films, you won't be able to watch too many of them, that shouldn't be that addictive.

Well, I've though of Interstellar, Inception, Arrival, and maybe Sleepwalker. As for Nolan there is also Dunkirk, which I didn't watch, but heard good recommndations about. And there is Vimeo which can be addictive, but also is quite artistic and some of the vids, especially staff picks are beautiful/inspiring/thought-provoking.
